Worst Holiday Inn we've stayed at!!!!
By rmlover31, 08/18/08
I'll start by saying that the exterior of the hotel makes it one of the more attractive hotels in town. And there are many things to consider: Likes: Bought a lakefront room, and LOVED the view. Bonus: got a corner room, so it had an additional window. Room was ok-sized. "Beach" was quiet. Really liked the pool. It was small, but the spa was attached, so you could sit in it and watch your kids swim. And the water in both were comfortable. Dislikes: Not even close to the usual Holiday Inn standards. Bed was cheap and springy, not the comfortable mattresses I've experienced elsewhere. Bed and shower had hair (lots) when we arrived. Headboard showed lots of smears (of who knows what) when the light shined on it. Room was rather dilapidated--sprinkler hanging out of the wall, some wallpaper peeling, screen on patio door was half off, etc. And the breakfast was horrible. I stayed at a HI in Indiana that seemed fresh enough to be from a restaurant. This was NOT comparable. Eggs were watery mush, gravy cold, biscuits rock-hard, bacon limp and greasy. And that was when they weren't out of items. And there was no-where, and I mean no-where to sit. That was a problem every day we were there. But the worst part was the bugs. SPIDERS EVERYWHERE!!! I read that from some other reviews, and thought they were just picky. Nope. Everywhere. Couldn't even use the patio. Talked to the front desk about it, and she said that St. Ignace just had a lot of spiders this year. After I got tired of killing them in our room, front desk had someone spray twice during our stay. Hubby still went to the patio and killed 10 in about 2 minutes. My kids spent all of the time in the room playing "kill the spiders with a shoe" on the patio--no joke. Did I mention that the internet never worked during our stay. Informed front desk, who told us to call their technician, with whom we spent AN HOUR of our vacation on the phone with. Finally, they decided that it was not our computer (no kidding, because we use wireless daily on it). But it still never was fixed. All in all, I was rather disappointed. Had I paid $50 a night for the Motel 6, I would have been fine. But I was paying $120 a night for a HOLIDAY INN!!! And that left a sour taste in my mouth. If you can get a good deal, take a chance on it--there are worse hotels in the area. But it is DEFINITELY overpaying to pay what they charge for a room.

Stay Smart?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/28/08
We are big fans of Holiday Inn Express and while this WAS NOT a dive, it did not live up to our expectation for this hotel chain. The bed was old and hard. We asked another couple and they described their mattress as "like sleeping on plywood." There is some water damage to the walls in the fourth-floor hallway and there was pigeon crap all over our balcony. The room looked like it hadn't been updated in quite a while. We'll be back to the area, but we're likely to try the Comfort Inn or Best Western. We're Priority Club members with Holiday Inn Express, but this stay doesn't make it worth a return visit to this hotel. To be fair, the staff was helpful and courteous. They get high marks and the location is great.

No Sleep
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/07
Hotel was nice however, we were near the top floor and around 2am the wind started blowing and there was loose sofit that started flapping and making noise. We were unable to sleep at all as it sounded like a freight train rolling through our room. We told management the next morning however they did nothing to accomadate us for a miserable night at their hotel. We would not stay there again and do not recommend it.

Hooray for the Holiday Inn Breakfast Hostess's
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/05/07
Just had to comment on probably one of your busiest days for the bridge walk. I had noticed that as busy as you were, the breakfast hostess's had always found the time to put on gloves when handling items that your guests would be using or eating. I mention this because on our way back down state we stopped at a hotel for one last night and the breakfast hostess was handling the spoons, without gloves and placing them spoon side up. Then she dropped one on the crumb filled floor and it sat there until she filled some of the other condiments. I was wondering what she was going to do with that spoon on the floor and had hoped she would have thrown it away. Guess where the spoon went? That's right, right in the same container as the rest of the spoons. Then she relunctantly realized that someone might have seen her and she turned around and saw me. I hadn't seen her the rest of the breakfast. Hat's off to your breakfast hostess's. You did a wonderful job on such a busy day.
