Not worth the price

The home is lovely from the outside, and inside most common areas, much of its classic appeal is maintained with beautiful wood finishes throughout. I was offered a choice between a tiny dark inner ground floor room which appeared rather dingy, and a third floor nicely refinished room. Since I was paying $98US (I had understood I was being quoted CAD prices when booking - read the small print!!)I chose the latter. The room was clean and nicely painted, but the rest of the decor was very ordinary. No pictures on the wall. A cheaply painted old dresser with no mirror; a dull duvet cover; worn-out inexpensive love-seat and chair. Styrofoam cups graced the bathroom. The side-table was covered to match the duvet and there were matching curtains on the corner window. There was a small digital clock, but no radio. The skylight (a nice feature) lacked shudders or a blind, so in the morning there was no lack of light from daybreak onward! I found there to be an "old house" smell, which bothered my allergies. On the bright side, the bathroom looked new and was very clean, though there was very little water pressure. Hot breakfast ends before 9:00, so if you're a late sleeper, too bad! You had best like the little cup of melon and yogurt or the cereals set out for you. (I was able to get soy beverage, which was nice.) I could not find the proprietor to assist with getting a copy of the bill or call a cab, so had to go outside and ring the doorbell. I understood this to be close to downtown, but I ended up spending $30.00 in cabfare as a result of the location. All in all, I was disappointed with this B&B - if it was $98 CAD, I might not have been so harsh on it, but I felt I did not get my money's worth.
