Sheraton Review July 2009 / Ocean Front Suite
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/27/09
I was just recently visiting the Keys for fishing and relaxation from 7/15/09 to 7/20/09 at the Sheraton suites at 2001 Roosevelt blvd something. I paid more for a suite with a oceanfront view. The view is outstanding at anytime for one of the balcony ocean view suites like I had. I think it comes in at over 500 sq ft. The Bed and sleeping area are top-notch beds made with that special touch. The living room area also has a ocean view window to the Atlantic. The couch was a kind of a long T shaped deal, but it was good to crash in while coming back on a night-time snapper raid, while checking my email. Evidently they do have a charge for Internet usage, but I already pay Florida verizon and I had no problem getting a good solid internet connection from my laptop or my blackberry storm. If you look around the facility it is much larger than you might originally think. The grounds are well maintained with a palm / tropic look and the pool is a little small w/ bars and a cool little waterfall slamming into the pool. The staff, up front were cluster upon arrival, but they finally got their act together. The concierge was somewhat helpful, very beautiful lady needed to know a little more about some fishing regs at the Dry Tort excursion. Yes you can fish there, but only on the docks. I highly enjoyed the snorkeling for hours around the reef and snapper and other ancient artifacts around the corals and fort. Note- may not be good to swim with a bunch of jewelry because of the Barracuda lurking all around. The living room had about a 30 in HDTV set up with basic cable and PPV, also the bedroom has an identical HDTV. There is a phone in each room, and mine did not work, so I just let them know of it. The shower is pretty nice and is great after several hours of fishing or whatever. One of the nicer little things that were very excellent was having a nice, pretty cool semi-private balcony to chill out and listen to nothing but the waves. Only the Ocean view Suites will have these very limited (15-20??) options. The room I was in was in outstanding condition and the safe came in real handy, but note that a 17 in laptop will not make it in the safe, but a bunch of stuff will. It also has a mini-bar / coffee area (with Starbucks java / sweetners, etc.) with a sink and a mini fridge with non-working freezer. I’m just trying to help those know a little about more The Sheraton Suite. I enjoyed my stay, which is when I was not out fishing. One last thing it’s very close to Charter Boat Row, and I highly recommend 2 boats, the Wild Bill and the partyboat Greyhound.
