we started at the alegro and moved to the grand mid week, much better rooms much better food and just over all a great place. if you go to any occedetal resort just remember 1 thing "just say NO" the constantly hit you up to join their clubs. and their sales people could be compared to the worst used cars sales people you have ever had to deal with. they will give you free jeep rental for listening to their sales pitch but i suggest you spend the 40 bucks and rent one your self cause its not worth the half a day of stress whiile your in paradise. great place great food great beach great people!!!

Worst Vacation Ever!
By ,
IF you want to take a high pressure time share vacation, enjoy food that my Dogs would not eat, and the customer service from a New York Taxi cad driver? book it. From the start this was the WORST vacation booking wit this hotel. I compair this hotel to motel 6, compaired to the Hilton re: the Iberostar which was still under repair from this years past hurricane. You hated to walk into the lobby because the time share SHARK's were there hounding you every day to listen to their 90 min. sales pitch. The problem was that the management would not do anything about it to you enjoy your vacation. The food was Awful! Most of it you could not make out, I only ate salad.... The Hotel only has 4 locations to eat, the formal dining area is 1 restauant, but only served 1 specialty meal a night (all were bad). The lunch buffet was served at the beach bar, I have to say the Hot Dogs were the best of the menu. Dinner buffet was by the sharks, they would try to pull you in before and after your meal creating more stress to a vacation. Taxi service to down town runs $17.00 USD for a one way trip if you like to shop. The Iberostar has free shuttles for their guest. Overall if your a Diver and just want to dive and not enjoy the other things that a all inclusive hotel, Good food, Good Drinks, Good service, 100% relaxation, Book it. At checkout the person did not even ask how our stay was nor if we would come back! My wife and I felt as that they just wanted our $USD and have a nice day. Sincerely, MKP

Awesome Trip #2
By ,
We Stayed at this resort on our honeymoon in July 2004 and came back in July 2005. We will stay here again in July '06! Why stay anywhere else when you are staying at the best? We had a great time. The rooms were clean and cool with great service. We loved the restaurants and tried to eat at each one while we stayed here. The beach is fantastic and the snorkeling is awesome. We liked that the atmosphere was laid back. It isn't a real "party resort" which made us even happier since we were there to enjoy each other. So if you want a party atmosphere, you'll need to go somewhere else. If you want romance this is the place for you. The trip into town cost us about $15.00 which is higher than the resorts that are closer to town but again, why would we want to stay anywhere else? We would highly recommend this resort to anyone wishing to have the time of their lives.

Great hotel!
By ,
We stayed at the Grand Cozumel Aug. 9-19th. We upgraded to Royal CLub and it was worth the extra money. Free movie rental, internet access and room service. The staff were all very friendly. The food was great at the buffet and resturants. The TV went out for 2 days but the AC worked good. We don't have any complaints. We didn't have kids with us but there seemed to be alot for them to do. At the pool there were games every morning and the dance club was open to kids until 10pm.

Met our expectations
By ,
The grounds were beautiful. The food was good, especially Los Olivos. It was far from any shopping. We had to rent a car to go to town. Don't take the Catamaran Snorkel trip on the Zorro. We got left at the Surf Club and couldn't get back to the hotel. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment.

Second trip to the Grand!!!
By ,
We just returned from our second vacation 7/05, to the Occidental Grand. As our first trip 7/04, it was just wonderful. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the staff were very friendly, the pool staff were very fun and the restaraunts were great!! I read in a previous review that someone was outraged that they had to actually get up to get a drink. Who cares if you have to get up once in a while to get a drink!! The wait staff at the pool and the beach work very hard in the hot sun and they can't be at your side every second you want a drink. We will would never stay anywhere else in Cozumel. We will be returning again and again.

First time, but not the last.
By ,
My wife and I arrived, and were escorted to a seperate check in building because I had upgraded to their best accomadations. I would recommend this to everyone. The food was great, there was plenty to do, but we enjoyed the quiet, and relaxed by the pools. We will be going back.

Won't do that again!!!
By ,
This was our second trip to Cozumel and decided to try a different hotel on the second visit, not a good choice. The hotel is new, 3 years old and is beautiful, the food was great, a large and varied choice of restaurants, and that is the extent of my praise for the Grand Cozumel!! Now for the bad part: The staff from the front desk all the way down to the dive shop were not courteous and helpful at all, and in the dive shop the guys there were downright rude!! The poolside waiters were AWOL!! We had to go and get our own drinks for the most part of the trip!! The beachside situation was worse, no waitstaff to be found. Taxi fare is pretty steep too from this hotel! $16USD one way to downtown!!! It pays to rent a scooter if you stay here, the taxi fare will eat up all your souvenir money. The day before our arrival a diver had drowned and there wasn't any kind of disclosure, in fact, any questions regarding the incident were met with a hushed tone and promptly dismissed. This incident really left a sour feeling on the whole trip and we will not be going back to that hotel!!

Ultimate Value
By ,
The place is new, clean, and upscale. The best part about it... it is priced right too! Other resorts should take notes. You really do not have to leave the resort. In fact, I don't really recommend leaving the resort... the rest of the island appears to be a bit dangerous. As always, just don't drink the water!
