Don't bring any electronics with you
On the third night of my stay I had my room "broken" into (that is, a key was used, which is available only to hotel staff). My laptop, MP3 player, copy of my passport, and PSP were all stolen. The Hotel's response?
1) They refused to call the police (I had to go to the US Consulate and have them call the police for me)
2) They didn't even apologize for the break-in even though they admitted it had to be a hotel staff member
3) Didn't even offer a free nights stay
4) I had to fight them to change rooms AFTER I had been broken into
5) When I asked to speak to the general manager, I was given the run-around (US Consulate had to contact him for me)
6) The security report did not reflect things I had told them (and it wasn't lost in translation, I speak Spanish)
7) When I asked the hotel to at least front the $500 for my insurance deductible on everything, suddenly they changed their story and said it wasn't a hotel employee after all
8) When I finally got the general manager he told me he would take care of this within a week. I haven't heard from him since.
Aside from the fact that the hotel is run down, you can't get internet in your room, the showers hardly work, the fact that you have no security to protect your room is bothersome. Add to the fact that the hotel will treat you worse once everything is stolen and offer no assistance (and won't call the police!) before they send you on your way, it's not worth the risk.
Stay down the street at a better hotel. Pay a little more for a nicer hotel where you can at least have security.
