Elegant, comfortable, romantic!

This inn is on a lovely street with many other Victorian mansions of various styles, just a short distance from Carthage's main square. The front sitting room is breathtakingly beautiful with its large round stained-glass trimmed window and an elegant fainting couch. The rooms are decorated tastefully with an expert's eye. Jeanne, the innkeeper, is one of those pleasant low-key people that you just naturally like. Our room on the second floor, the Nathanial Hawthorne room, had a large carved wooden bed and a 2-person Jacuzzi right in the room, and also an extra large shower stall in the bathroom. The room was just a bit cramped for space, but we loved it, and anyway, we had the whole upstairs to ourselves that night. I think the bed was comfortable but don't remember. Which means it was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and substantial: yogurt with bananas & granola, omelet with bacon, cheese & green pepper, tiny spice muffins, fresh fruit, juice, coffee. A wonderful place to stay, in one of the country's friendliest towns.
