Very nice hotel, exellent sevice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/1/11
Do not believe all bad reviews about this hotel. We stayed 5 nights in the room 5508 in the Metropolitan Inn. Everything was perfect.. The first night we found a parking lot around a block away but next day we kept our car very close. The beach is only 150 yards from a hotel, and there is a waking distance (10 min) from a shopping center an restaurants. . The restaurant/bar inside the hotel is very good also. The front desk ladies were very very helpful, especially Valentina Perron - she was very professional and helpful. We would stay in this hotel again. Alex and Irene from Alpharetta, GA

Roach Hotel, Do Not Stay Here!!!
By JamieM, 7/6/10
We booked this hotel despite the reviews because they were suppose to be under renovation. The first bad thing is the parking. It is a huge hotel with only 20 spots or so out front. The parking lot behind the hotel is gated and locked for a condo next to it. They tell you that you have to go down the road for more parking. The pool was shut down the whole time due to cleaning (It was so cloudy it looked gray). They promised it would be open in a little while. That was the same song for 3 days. The stoves in the kitchen did not work. The fridges came out of the ancient times and didn't work either. My wifes family stayed in a room across from us, and had to move 3 times due to roaches. Not just one roach, but over 20 in the first hotel room. Our room was okay until the last day and we had roaches also. When we told the front desk, they supplied us with roach spray. They also said that the roaches were coming in from outside and they can't keep the roaches under control. They said that they spray all the time. Right after my in-laws moved out from the first room, they cleaned it up and moved someone into it immediately. The manager came with the new guests so that we would not say anything. They also only have 2 carts to move your items from your car. We were using one that had a flat tire and they sent another guest to our room to request for the cart back. Overall , this is the worst hotel ever. Take my advice, and do not stay here!

Roach Motel from Hell
By liz, 6/26/10
My husband, my two daughters, two nieces, my parents, and I stayed at this hotel from June 21, 2010 to June 23, 2010. This hotel is horrible. We got two rooms with kitchens. In one room the stove did not work. In the other room the fridge didn't work. The first night when we took showers there were roaches all in the bath room. The little German roaches. We have pictures to prove it that I will be posting soon. There were also roaches in the cabinets in the kitchen area and in the working fridge. We called the front desk and the woman apologized. She moved us to another room at 11:30 at night. When we got to the other room, I went to lay my key card on the table and a huge roach ran across my hand. I swear I am not exaggerating it was one of the biggest roaches I have ever seen. So we were moved to another room and they gave us Raid roach spray. We decided to deal with it for the night. We woke up around 6:00 am. I took a shower and the water was barely warm. Then while I was getting my children dressed, another gigantic roach came out of the closet in our 3rd room. My husband killed it and took it to the front desk. The guy at the front desk said that they were normal and they couldn't help it. In my parents' room the air conditioner flooded the carpet. They also encountered a huge roach. When my dad spoke with the manager she claimed they sprayed the hotel and that is why so many roaches were coming out. They didn't fix the air conditioner which leaked into the room below us. We know this because these people were at the front desk checking out early when we were checking out. The air conditioners in every room we stayed in were so loud it made us jump in our sleep. They sounded like a dump truck cranking up and then when they shut off it sounds like the truck back fired. We choose this hotel because it was cheap. Please do your family and yourself a favor and spend more money on a nicer hotel. When we were getting dressed a lady opened our door with a key card. She said the front desk gave her the same room. She had a little boy with her. Thankfully we were dressed. If she had been 5 minutes earlier she would have seen my husband and I naked. When I went to the front desk the guy didn't even know we were staying there. He asked what rooms we had and how long we were staying. He said now that I wrote down what room your in then you won't get walked in on again. The pool was closed the entire time we were there and it was really dirty. We took the stairs instead of the elevator and I swear there were 3 huge dead roaches on the steps. There was really only about 12 parking spaces. We walked every where due to not wanting to loose our parking space. I will never stay in this hotel again. This hotel was hell. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It was not worth $62 a night. I truthfully wouldn't have paid $30.00 a night if I knew what this motel was like.

DON'T STAY HERE!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/27/09
We go to HHI every year & HAD to stay here due to accomodation issues. The only good thing I can say is that the staff is very friendly. However, the rooms are disgusting & so are the common areas. The rug in our room was dirty. We slept with throws we had brought because the sheets/blankets felt dirty. There were cockroaches as well. After a few days I developed a rash on my arms. I think it was from sitting on the dirty couch in our room. I believe the room was infested with bugs & this is what caused my rash. There are so many better places to stay on the island. Don't stay here!!!

Schedule someplace else
By Donna, 9/15/08
Like most of the reviews, my husband and I were very unhappy with our room. We should have taken the hint when we only saw one other guest there all weekend. The carpet was dirty, the hook was missing on the bathroom door, no handle on the desk drawer, mold on the walls in the bathroom, stains on the towels and residue on the countertop. The second night the hall and bathroom lights and outlets went out. Though a repair man came and we were assured they would be on in the morning, they were not. We had to move a floor lamp near the bathroom so we could shower with a little light in the morning. I would never recommend this place to anyone and am truly surprised that they are associated with RCI at all. I am surprised there is a place like this on Hilton Head Island.

Not under any circumstances should you stay here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/17/08
This is the epitomy of the word “dump.” We stuck it out for two days because you could walk to the beach, but the conditions became more and more evident with each hour. We were willing to live with no maintenace (cabinet knobs missing, shower curtain repaired with scotch tape, permanent stains on the towels). We thought it was at least clean, until we noticed the trash left in the hallways was not picked up for those two days and starting seeing bugs. When we complained, we were told that was not their problem, just the nature of the beach. We are from Florida, and bugs are maintainable. Needless to say, we left immediately and were not reimbursed anything for our outrage. Don’t under any circumstances stay here, and I predict it will be closed in a year at this rate anyway.

Great Vacation!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/23/07
We really had a great vacation on Hilton Head Island!!! The Metropolitan Hotel Staff could not have been more friendly and hospitable. The room was clean and much larger than expected. And the location was perfect. We were very close to the beach and the shopping areas. We would definitely go back to the Metropolitan Hotel in the future!

Thought It Was A Great Value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/23/07
We would definitely stay here again. For an inexpensive hotel, located right by the beach, this was a great deal. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and helpful and my family had a great time.

Heed the Warnings!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/17/07
Ignore the reviews from 2005-6. Read the current reviews and believe them. We stayed at the Metropolitan Aug 2007. We relocated once from the dorms located 1/2 mile behind the main bldg, with outdoor room entrances and employees hanging out socially in the "lobby". Got to our new room...hallways wall trim were all torn off. Carpet tacking strips were exposed everywhere. Not vaccuumed once during our stay - apparent from the construction debis that was there when we arrived and still there when we left. No pillow cases (yuck!). Wallpaper peeling, mold in shower tile grout. Bathroom counter not stable/front part only half attached, so it hung at an angle. Kept shoes on in room because was afraid of the carpet. Completley broken closet rod. No doors on closet. Furniture missing knobs. We kept the Do Not Disturb sign on the entire stay because we were wary of the staff and helped ourselves to "clean" bedding & towels from the housekeeping closet. Linen was stained and had cig burns. Large, multiple bags of garbage left in halls by housekeeping all day. Hounded by a man who kept asking us if we'd received our "free" gift - "all we had to do was go to his room..." I don't think so! Would have relocated, but the stay was a gift and could not bear to hurt the givers feelings. Parking was a daily game of "musical cars." Would never return and warn others to do the same. Only good thing is that the location was close to Coligny Square, South Beach and Harbour Town - Definitely "must sees "at HH.

Run like the wind!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/17/07
We were able to check in at 4:00 p.m. I had read the reviews before but tried to keep an open mind. Our room opened to the out doors and luckily the cockroach was dead outside our door and not in the room. The white bed spreads had unidentified stains on them. The carpet was felt dirty and looked as if it had not been vacuumed. The bathroom door was locked we waited 1 hour for someone to come and unlock it we finally found a paper clip and unlocked it ourselves. Upon entering the bathroom no towels or soap were to be found, my husband finally tracked down housekeeping and took some from the cart. The wallpaper was peeling off in the corners of the bathroom,I was surprised to find the tub actually clean. The bed was so hard, it felt like a box spring with a foam pad over it. The neighbors stayed up until three in the morning coming outside to smoke, which would billow in under our door and come in through the air-conditioner. I thought I was back in college, loud music, people slamming doors. There were no trash cans in the room and the remote was missing. We checked out the next morning and went to the Days Inn, Major improvement. I would sleep in my car before ever going back to the Met. HH. Do not stay at this hotel.
