Harrassed by desk staff
My family and I checked into this hotel on June 20, 2011 at 7am. We had stayed at this hotel 2 weeks ago, and thought it to be nice. This day, I dropped my hubby off at the jobsite and proceed to this hotel to check in, where we thought we would enjoy staying due to quietness and privacy given at this hotel. Due to being harrassed, threatend, and yelled at by the front desk as well as safety reasons for my family we ended up leaving that evening. We checked into our room at 7am. We travel with a dog. We were given a second floor room. I asked if they had anything available on first floor and the nice young lady said that they only had this room available, as we were checking in at 7am. I was fine with it. The room was above the lobby. The only way to get up to the room was by taking the dog through the lobby and up the stairs. I thought this unusual, as usually if you have a dog this hotel puts you in the back of hotel or a first floor. Upon leaving the hotel with my dog and son to pick up my husband, we return to the hotel. As we are proceeding through the lobby and upstairs to our room, I am greeted by the desk clerk working. This is how I am PROFESSIONALLY greeted---"You can't just be hanging out here with your dog." I said "excuse me?" And what business of it was hers if I am outside walking with my son and dog. "I thought it was a free country " Afterall, I wasn't breaking any laws. I've worked customer service jobs before, this is NOT the way to greet a paying customer. I explain to her we are returning from an outing and on our way up to our room . I stated "How else are we supposed to get up to our room?" She states" there are no dogs allowed up there and it is not a free country.". I tell her and she says "haven't you read the pet policy?" I said "why are you being so rude?" She says"You're the one being rude." She continues to become argumentative with us., asking why we lied about having a dog. I stated " The clerk was aware we had a dog." The desk clerk states "You'll be subject to a cleaning fee." No compassion or kindness displayed by her. I direct my son up to the room as this lady appears to be mentally unstable and I am surprised she is working around the public. I attempt to just agree with everything she is saying. I state "Can you move us to a first floor room if that's where we are supposed to be with a dog?" She states "It's too late now. You already have a cleaning fee for one room it doesn't pay to dirty another room. I state nicely "o.k." The girl continues to threaten and intimidate our family. Nothing I say seems to calm her down, and she appears to be getting more belligerant. I am frightened as our room is located directly above where she is working. After directing my son upstairs, I begin walking up the stairwell. She's using a loud tone from the front desk, walks toward me and then walks toward the desk. She opens the desk drawer, states "Have you read our pet policy?" and SLAMS the drawer shut. I proceed up the stairs into our room and close the door. Our room phone rings. I tell my son not to answer it. It is the desk lady calling us. I proceed back downstairs and tell my son to stay in the room. She begins threatening and intimidating me again. A thought in my head tells me to call law enforcement, as I couldn't believe that this girl is working the front desk and responsible for the safety of her customers. She appearred to be in need of some mental help. We don't yell at our home. What kind of image was this girl portraying for this hotel? I called my hubby. I told him I wasn't comfortable staying there due to safety reasons. He instructed us to leave immediately. The girl working at this family oriented hotel or any job where she is responsible for the safety of others really concerns me. As a flightattendant and caregiver, this behavior would be grounds for immediate termination.
