Noisy hotel
By ,
This hotel was overall good and not a bad deal for the price, however, very noisy. We stayed here for the Portland Marathon and needed to get up at about 5:00 a.m. The party at the Doug Fir lounge was going until about 3:00 a.m.!! We heard it loud and clear from our room. The desk staff told me that this would be one of the quieter rooms. I can't imagine what a loud room would be like. If you can handle noise, it's not a bad hotel. If you want a full night's sleep, on a weekend especially, I wouldn't recommend it.

Perfect Portland Hangout
By ,
Likes: Chalkboard doors, cool decor, great bar/restaurant on the property, close to all the downtown action without being a nightmare to drive. We spent the night with the intention of having a good time at the Doug Fir and weren't bothered by the noise that so many other people have commented on. It's definitely a place off the beaten path and a welcome change to those cookie cutter budget hotels. We also were able to bring our dog along- amazing! Dislikes: There is some noise off the Doug Fir outdoor area, but the staff warned us sufficiently and we were prepared- the Jupiter even provided the earplugs. All over, it was a great weekend and very "Portlandy" vibe.

At least the free coffee was good.

The Jupiter Hotel in Portland, OR is on the surface a kitchy, seemingly trendy place decently located near Lloyds Center. For the right type of customer I am sure the funky atmosphere and fun party vibe would be very enjoyable. However if what you are looking for is a quiet evening in a comfortable room, this hotel is not for you. The room was quite possibly the smallest I have ever seen. The advertised "queen" bed was really only a double. The on site club and tattoo parlor were the focal points for parties (music provided courtesy of the blaring outdoor speaker system) in the central courtyard that went on until 4am. On Saturday there were no available spots to park in the access controlled garage. My parking fee was refunded for that night, but its difficult to understand how they sold more slots than they had for the cars to park in. Unless you are looking for this specific type of experience I highly recommend that you stay elsewhere, or a the very least reserve a room as far away from the club and courtyard as possible. Personally on my next trip I will trade kitch for comfort and stay at a chain hotel.

Cool place to party, not so much to sleep
By ,
Cool place with interesting live bands. Club opens up onto patio right in front of rooms so it is very noisy and bright til early in the morning. Nice staff. About a 10 minute walk across the bridge to the touristy part of town but a bus stops right in front of the hotel and the subway stops right on the west side of the bridge, about a 6 minute walk.

Not what we expected
By ,
What I like: the concept of cool "hip" hotel, boutique, lounging around and restaurant/bar concept. Good location-good restaurants and other boutiques near by. The blue lights at night make the hotel look more appealing. What I didn't like: the website made this place seem like the cool urban hang out and magazine tooted it's greatness. They had a good photographer, because what we ended up with was not what we expected to get based on the pictures. No photoscape in our room. No character at all. If you end up on the party side, it's going to be a long, sleepless night.

a dump
By ,
the room they tried to give us had 2 holes kicked in the wall, filthy ikea rugs and thrashed herman miller knockoff furniture. its in a bad section of town and way too pricey for the youth hostel it really is. doug fir seemed cool, but we left after one look at the terrible accomodations. a REAL dump.

Pretentious, Dirty & Bad Service
By ,
Patrons and staff were pretentious, arrogant and unhelpful. Room was dirty, unkempt... Unhealthy... Ambience was sleazy. Also loud, could not sleep at all. Absoluteley NOT recommended for pleasure or business!
