10 reviews for Denali Princess Wilderness Lodg, Denali National Park
Stay some where else.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/05/09
I was promised a room with a king size bed, a view of the river and a refrigerator. Princess failed to deliver on all three promises. The rooms remind me of the Super 8. Uncomfortable matresses, no coffee maker, ironing board or iron. Highly over priced! We ended up going to a neighboring hotel for the cabin dinner theater. After speaking with other guests at our table, we regret choosing the Denali Princess. They described their rooms as top notch, with good amenities! I guess we assumed the Denali Princess Resort would be at the same quality and caliber of Princess Cruise Ships. We were wrong.

Below Princess standards
By tim, 08/06/08
Most guest rooms face other guest rooms, not panoramic views. Had to call desk when room still not cleaned by 4 PM. Hot tubs not close to most buildings. Buildings so far apart, not realistic to walk across complex with wet bathing suits. Rooms dark, small, old mattresses, double-beds, not queen-sized. Bed linens old and shabby. Thin dollar-store-style towels and washcloths. VERY noisy. Cheap, thin draperies don't keep out summer light - Princess needs to invest in black-out draperies like cruise-ships have. Dinner at King Salmon restaurant (food and service) was excellent. Other dining options mediocre quality, choices and expensive.

Close to Denali
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/06/06
I stayed here as part of my land tour package, booked through Princess Cruises, around June 2006. The hotel is fairly close to Denali National Park by vehicle and to gift shops located across the street. I liked this hotel because of its general location to many of the local attractions. Internet connection, located in a large building near many of the hotel rooms, should be free of charge but use your laptops in the lobby area as the signal in the rooms are not the best.

Beautiful Lodge...
By YOULL SEE, 08/28/06
We recently spent two nights in this lodge. The lodge is absolutely beautiful and the rooms were huge. Our room was very clean and the staff was very helpful. I am not cheap, but I felt the eating options were limited and pricey--being isolated on the lodge grounds gave no extended choices for eating. Even the couple eating places that weren't Princess owned had "lodge prices". After 7 nights of incredible eating in the Coral Princess, we were a little disappointed in this part of the trip. Another "con" is no air conditioning--the two nights we stayed were quite warm and the fan provided did not quite do the trick. But, the Tundra Wilderness trip was incredible! Even though we were traveling in a school-bus, we were very comfortable. The 8-hr trip just flew by. We saw lots of wild-life and had an incredible guide. Princess made that trip extremely nice--hope they keep "Liz" on the payrole, she was great! Denali Music theater was a nice show. It had an all-you-can-eat rib and salmon dinner and a cute show. The food was a little under par for a price-tag of $50 a person, but the show was really nice. One more thing, check-out time is 11:00 am so, if your connecting train or bus leaves much later than that, you'll be sitting around the lobby with a ton of other passengers who didn't know that even though they booked with Princess, there would be a limbo-time of "what the heck do we do now, no room and we have until 3:00 until our train leaves".

Breathtaking views
By Sue, 07/09/06
Room was sparkling clean. Just happened to be in the newest section of the Lodge with its own lobby and a small coffee shop and bar. Very peaceful and uncrowded. The areas near the shops and main lobby were busier but still relaxing. Food and service in the dining room were superb. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and tender enough to almost cut with a fork. View of the Nenana River was fantastic. While we dined we saw mother moose and her baby at the edge of the river. Shopping was interesting with things from $0.25 up to ---. Overall a super 2 nights. Highly recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gorgeous Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/29/06
Decent rooms, great service and stunning views are at Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge. Their hot tubs overlooking river rapids and Alaskan mountains were my favorite part of the Lodge experience. I cannot wait to go back!

The heart of Alaska..
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/21/05
We recently spent two nights at the Denali Princess Lodge, and were very pleased with the accomodations, service and most importantly the location. We emerged from under the clouds and mist to arrive at the lodge under a rainbow, which set the tone for our spectacular two days exploring Denali National Park. Highly recommend the experience, particulary the Denali 8-hour wilderness tour for a true taste of the vast park, and an abundance of wildlife sightings. Visiting in September also allowed us to experience the muted fall colors that Denali has to offer in the brief window of transition to the winter months.

geared to the older tour crowd
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/08/05
We (a family of four, kids 8 and 11) stayed for two nights in early June. Like another reviewer, we had booked our train separately. The hotel is very geared to serving the cruise ship package people, and don't seem very concerned with helping independent travelers. The place is filled with over-60 tour group crowd. Nevertheless, we had a nice *big* room with a bunkbed for our kids, which thrilled them, and while the restaurants had no kids menus, they were very nice about making special foods for the kids. Our biggest problem came after we left - we forgot our camera battery and charger in the room. We called two days later and were told that they had the charger, that it would be sent to our home address. Two months and 7 phone calls later, and I still don't have it - I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever get it back! Every time I call, the staff is very nice, assure me that they'll get back to me, etc., but don't. At this point I'm dealing with a manager - even she seems to be unable to get the responsible person to call me. Very frustrating.

Not what we expected!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/04/05
We took the Princess Rail tour from Anchorage to DeNali Princess Lodge - cost was expensive - everything went well until we got to the lodge - we were considered "independents" since we planned our own trip and were not with a cruise tour. when we got there - the other party with us were put in a one double bed room instead of two queens which was what they had reserved back in February. They were then moved to another location. It was May so temperature was nice. No fans needed. We had our evening meal in the lounge (restaurant was crowded) - it was okay but nothing to rave about. The second night, we went to the DeNali Music Dinner Theater and thoroughly enjoyed it - the actresses and actors doubled as our waiters - they have lots of personality and are very talented. We took a park tour the next day. It was great - we got to see Mt.McKinley on a clear day! There was lots of confusion on the morning we were to catch the train back to Anchorage - it was like we were on our own - no one informed us where to take our luggage, etc. They put us on a Princess bus to the railroad but since we were not going further with Princess, we had to haul our luggage down to the rail station which was a good walk from where they parked the buses - not pleasant since we had all our luggage to haul. Felt like Princess should have done a better job at the end of our tour - very disappointing! It was like they got our money and were through with us. You have to look out for yourself! We paid over $850 for the two of us for this part of our Alaskan trip and were disappointed in Princess. The lodge is beautiful and deck at restaurant is very pretty also. My suggestion is to ask a lot of questions. However, as stated in other reviews, the staff gave different answers each time you asked - seemed not certain of what to tell you.

Impressive views
By Carlene, 05/19/05
The main lodge lobby is beautiful Too bad they didn't light the fireplaces for atmosphere. Staff was new and could not solve problems, offered newness as excuse. Room not cleaned; breakfast was cold at Summit Restaurant; advertised tours were not open yet. Peacefulness of location was a plus. Gift shop staff courteous and helpful. Shuttles did not run on a schedule - creating problems.
