Absolutely wonderful place to stay
By Kristy, 9/18/09
We've been going to Chincoteague for years, but this was our first time at the Assateague Inn - wish we would've found it years ago! Staff is amazing. Can't say enough about the manager and other employees - they were incredibly friendly and helpful. Knew EVERYTHING about the Island and were very accessible. Assateague Inn is on the State Park side of the Island as opposed to the bay side which is nice if you plan on spending most of your time on the beach like we do. Hotel itself is BEAUTIFUL, and it's in a nice secluded location. Loved the private dock - nice place to sit and relax. We saw a family of swans going through the marsh almost every night. BRING BINOCULARS AND A FLASHLIGHT if you want to get the most of watching the wildlife off the dock. Rooms, pool, gym, etc., were spotlessly clean. Original artwork by local artists everywhere. Everything was provided in room: coffe pot, toaster, mini stove top (big enough to steam crabs), mid-size fridge, silverware, etc. The only thing I would bring next time is a nice sized steam pot. It's close to restaurants - Maria's and Ledo's are right off the entrance, and if you forget anything, there is a family dollar that's up the road and has decent prices on the essentials: bottled water, sunscreen, etc. One thing we had a hard time finding was charcoal, seemed like everyone was out, and the Assateague Inn has a nice little picnic area with grills, so if you have room, bring some. WE LOVED THIS HOTEL - we're already planning our next trip:)

Some nice features but needs updating
By b, 7/10/09
We stayed here with our teenage son two summers in a row. The foldout sofabed was not comfortable, so he preferred to just sleep on the couch. The mattress in the bedroom was a little uncomfortable, but we liked the fact that our room (an efficiency) had a separate bedroom. The kitchen was a nice touch, but the coffeemaker was very old and not reliable and we had to ask the staff to provide utensils. We noticed a hole in the kitchen floor tile. We love the location of this place; however, and the fact that it has a homey feel. The pier is wonderful and we found it very family-friendly and quiet. We like the fact that the housekeepers wash the dishes, make the bed, and clean up daily. Just update a little bit to make this a great place!

Great place for family
By David, 5/25/09
Stayed here in a suite with my wife and 3 kids (age 10 and younger). It was great to have a separate bedroom for mom and dad, and the kitchenette was adequate for our breakfast and lunch. Walking distance to Ledo's Pizza (GREAT pizza!), Captain Zack's, and Island Creamery for dessert. Kids enjoyed the pool too after a day at the beach. Great value!

Great Place for Small Family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/26/08
Crabbing, fishing, clamming and etc. from a small but very beautiful pier in the back of the Inn. In the morning, white egret walks by the creek bank looking for fish and crabs..., etc.

Beautiful view, great place, excellent location!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/13/08
We loved the clean, comfortable room. The view from our room was gorgeous -water, pine trees, birds of all kinds! The beach was only minutes away and we could walk to restaurants. The pool was great and the kids caught a crab off the private crabbing pier! This is a place our family will definitely return to again and again! Highly recommended!

Not impressed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/27/08
Room was outdated and rundown. Not what I'd consider a clean room. Fold out sofas were threadbare and mattresses worn. Very uncomfortable. No screen in sliding door, so couldn't enjoy the night air (some rooms had, some didn't). Could go on (toilet paper roll fell off wall first time it was touched). Cleaning staff was very nice, but management was quite unfriendly. View and location were great, but quality of room for the cost was not. The kids liked the island, but couldn't wait to leave the room. Make it $75 a night and it would get 3/4 stars. For $130 a night, 2 stars.

Good Choice for the money
By TRACY, 7/14/08
Beautiful view from the balcony. Good location. Nice place for a weekend of fishing and crabbing. Hotel and pool were very clean. However, the pots and pans, and toaster (which we decided not to use) were way past their prime and needed replaced. Very basic but comfortable facility.

Gorgeous View, Great Value
By Tappercat, 10/17/07
We loved the beautiful view of the marsh and pine trees! The sunsets were spectacular off our balcony. The place was immaculately clean and well maintained. What an excellent value for a family! We could make our own meals in our room or walk to nearby restaurants. The kids loved the private crabbing pier off the back of the hotel - a great way to spend an afternoon. Also, we were just minutes from the entrance to Assateague National Seashore. The Assateague Inn is a beautiful place to stay and we'll definitely return again.

Average place with good location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/15/07
We stayed here sight unseen and we had a pleasant experience. The rooms were very clean and well-kept. The convertible sofa-bed however was very beat up and not very comfortable. Rooms were cleaned daily and towels replaced as we wanted. One day I noticed the room had not been vacuumed as I saw some pieces of cereal still on the floor from that morning. One unique aspect is that the back of the building faces a marsh and has a dock - so kids can go out and learn how to crab or just get a close view of the marsh. I would probably go back, but I would be tempted to try another place just for comparison. Reasonable price for accommodations was what sold us.

Excellent Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/14/07
I enjoyed staying at Assateague Inn. I had a room with a beautiful veiw of the marshland surrounding the hotel. The location of the hotel was excellent too. There is a Mini Put and a Bike Rental place near the hotel. When you go swimming in the pool though if it is hot expect the pool to be hot too.
