DO NOT BOOK DURING THE STURGIS RALLY

We booked and paid for our rooms in full for the Sturgis Rally. When we got there we were told they cancelled our reservations due to overbooking. This was after traveling across the country!! He gave our rooms to someone that was willing to pay more for them, and left us high and dry without a room after traveling across the country! DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL

the staff went out of there way to help us in everyway they could,Upon checkin they gave us a remolded room on the first floor so it was easyer on us, no stairs, even the owner asked if there was anything he could do to make our stay better!

Black Hills State Parents 8-30-11

This place is very unhealthy.Beware of bed bugs and body crabs on the bed speads. Manager with the nazi mustache don't care about nothing but. watching the guests use the filthy pool on the security cameras. Dude is a creep.

Dirty but great staff

Bedding was dirty. I removed bedspread & blue blanket beneath had crusty spots on it. Gross! Pool & hot tub water is dirty- So cloudy you cant see to the bottom in 3 ft of water. Beds are very, very firm & feel like you are sleeping on a brick. Front desk staff & breakfast staff were very friendly & helpful with any questions we had. Breakfast was frozen waffles, toast, bagels, muffins, cereal, hard boiled eggs, watermelon, or cereal. Coffee, juice or milk for drink options. Found door propped open with garbage cans from lobby & parking lot. Overall hotel is run down. Looks like HoJo bought an old, run down hotel & stuck their name on it. I do not feel this lives up to HoJo standards. I have a block of rooms reserved for our wedding in 3 months, Think I may cancel & go elsewhere due to the filthy rooms & pool.

Excellent Customer Care

My daughter and I were traveling to Idaho, and stayed at the hotel overnight. She has a baby, and had made an Indian star quilt for her, it was her first time making a quilt blanket. She didn't realize at the time, but the blanket was left behind. Several months later, after exhausting all other ideas of where it might be... I called the hotel, the staff checked with housekeeping, and, to our surprise, and excitement, they HAD the blanket. The head of housekeeping said she always hangs on to baby blankets, knowing they are special. Thank you to the friendly caring staff! My daughter can't wait to get the blanket back to her daughter!! If ever we travel through the area again, you can bet we will be staying with them again!

Great place to stay!

Stayed here for 4 days and our experience was great. We also had family stay here the same time that came for my son's wedding and they enjoyed their stay too. Management was nice and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi were nice. They have free breakfast in morning with bagel's, muffins, cereal, waffal's, juice & coffee. Hotel lobby also sells beer & wine coolers for $2 a bottle. There is also a pizza and chicken place attached to the front of the hotel that is run by seperate people. Food was very good and perfect place for families or those with big appetites. A lot of locals were there Sunday afternoon for lunch buffet. Close to gas, restaurants and department stores. There is a bike and walk path that takes you into town through golf course if you want some exercise. I will stay here again next time in Spearfish.

DIRTY BATHROOM

This hotel is nice enough inside, EXCEPT the bathroom was filthy, obviously not cleaned from the last person! For one person, $72 was the rate -- could have gotten a clean, nice camping cabin down the street at Chris' Camp for $35. Took a shower and the drain was so clogged that you stood in 3-4" of dirty water, obviously the last person's bacteria (since it had not been cleaned). If the maid is fired and they hire competent cleaning people, this hotel would be okay. It left me with a bad taste for HoJo. Complained to the front desk person and guy was very nice and apologetic. I hope they CLEAN the place up, because the location is great.

Go Elsewhere!

Dirty room (toilet was plugged up with human waste and dark hairs on bed sheets). Room was shabby and had a weak internet signal. Definitely not worth the $79 rate I was given(with AAA discount). I have never stayed at a Howard Johnson before, and only choose this hotel because a friend recommended it as a reliable chain. There are other options near this hotel, stay elswhere!

Awsome

We were traving back to Cailfornia and thought when in the Black Hills why not. The problem was every one else thinks the same, so Keystone, Rapid City were all booked or exspensive. We thought we should try going a little further out, that was a great idea. The check in process was fast and plesent. The pool was a great thing to have access to, and the Pizza Ranch next door made dinner even easier. What we thought was going to be the hard part(going back to Keystone)was not that bad. The front desk staff picked the best route for use through the Spearfish Canyon. It was worth the extra hour drive to see the wonderful nature of the Black Hills instead of the boring interstate. The breakfast in the morning was nice to have and the stay over all was wonderful. Having nice large clean rooms, a great staff that has a lot of knowledge, pool, breakfast, and internet too it made the Black Hills that much more exciting. If we were ever near there again I would drive the extra hour.

Good clean cheap hotel

We were surprised to find a Howard Johnson listed for $49.95 with 2 queens so we were concerned it was not a nice place to stay. We asked before hand if they would honor a %15 off Curves coupon and they said yes. We found the hotel and rooms clean and in mostly good working order. One bed was loose on it's frame and would tip when sat on. Air conditioner did not work right, tv channel changer was 1st generation and there was no wireless or high speed interenet available. Breakfast was skimpy and we skipped it. When we checked out they would not honor %15 off coupon and told us we already had dicounted price, we were charged $49.95 and had rented 2 rooms for 2 nights. If you want a cheap (in price and material wise) place to place your head, this is the place.
