Nice setting, but some BUG problems
What a pretty place. The rooms are lovely and it seemed to be clean.
One problem we had was that there is a touch lamp in the room that came on by itself twice during the night, waking us both times. I had to cross the room to turn it off. I belatedly thought about pulling the plug (what can I say, I was groggy).
The BIG problem, however, was at the bar on the first floor. I fetched us some drinks--top shelf liquor. I noticed, after a couple of sips, that there were about a dozen dead bugs in the bottom of it. So I took the drinks back down. The bartender was horrified. I figured the glasses were under the lights or something. She poured new drinks and I got in the elevator and noticed more bugs in there. I went back and we held up the bottles to the lights and nearly all had numerous dead lil buggies in the bottoms. I ended up choosing drinks that did not have bugs. But no effort was made to refund the drinks. I phoned, after our stay, to notify the manager, in case it had not been done. He said the problem was corrected. I hope they bought better pouring tips, because that's how the bugs were in there. And I hope they really did replace all that liquor, it would have been an expensive job.
I hesitantly recommend this place. It really is nice to stay in a charming building that has history. But if you go there, ask them to hold the bottle up to the light before you drink.
