Charming, but badly flawed
By ,
My negative review is based largely on two problems we encountered. First, the Park Manor Suites has NO AIR CONDITIONING Normally this is not a problem in San Diego, but the days we spent there were hot and humid. The room had two cheap box fans and lots of windows, but noise from the traffic outside meant we couldnt keep the windows open at night. Management was unapologetic, occasionally rude, and unwilling to offer any solution. Second, service was a disappointment. We moved our own bags using one of their (rickety) carts. One day, housekeeping had not been to our room by 3:45, by which time we had returned to change for dinner. We had them leave us fresh towels and skip the cleaning. We chose the Park Manor Suites for the two-bedroom apartment-style suites (there are also one-bedroom and studio units). The location across from Balboa Park is convenient. Parking is free. Some of the furniture could be called antique, some just plain old. The bathroom was functional, but the grout looked bad and bathtub was stained with age and wear. The included breakfast is adequate, offering bagels, breads, fruit, cereal, yogurt, juice, and coffee. The highlight of breakfast is the penthouse room it is served in, offering nice views of the city and some tables outdoors on the roof deck. Despite the historic charm of the building and the spacious room, the Park Manor Suites has too many flaws.

Great for a single business traveler
By ,
I loved the character and charm of this hotel, the spacious rooms, the bed linens, and the location. However, there was no A/C and we had to keep the windows open in order to get circulation at night. With that, came sirens, street noise, pedestrian noise, etc; so, it was either be hot and not hear as much noise, or open the windows and have it loud. On a couple of nights, I felt like we were in NYC with all the commotion. Had I been alone, I could have better dealt with this, but my husband and two kids were with me. That said, the staff were charming, particularly Kevin, the GM of the restaurant, everyone was friendly, and I like the fact that we were in a gay-friendly hotel. It was nice to have a diversity of people who were "out and about." If I were travelling alone I would stay here again and join-in at the sing-along bar, in the restaurant.

Park Manor for the lover of art
By ,
The hotel, if you are into that type of era, is the best I ever saw. It had everything I needed, breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. You really didn't have to go anywhere else for the necessities. The staff was helpful and considerate, the location was great. What I thought was going to be just another stay turned into a history class. Very, very nice.

Hidden Gem

I loved the whole look of this wonderful hotel. The lobby is beautiful. I was shown many different rooms by the manager many years ago-after a redecorating. I was awestruck. It's like staying in a most unusual setting as for the largeness of the rooms. There were quaint dressing room hallways off the bathroom (one of the styles of the room)You could fit clothes for a year in that dresser! Each room the man showed me was decorated so different and elegant. The basement restaurant was great food! The rooftop breakfast was excellant-more choices than your could imagine!!! What a view from the rooftop. I've stayed there about 5 times and am looking forward to my next long overdue stay. Walking distance to Balboa Park and lots of bakeries amd coffee shops.

the perfect stay for me in san diego
By ,
quite simply, I love this place. I am a young urban female who comes here annually for work and has never stayed anywhere else in San Diego. It has authentic and fun vintage character with a bit of modern convenience, I have always been able to get good pricing on the best room available (on a corner facing the park)that is not only huge but super functional with at least one table for working wirelessly on my laptop, a full kitchen, books in an antique cabinet, tv with cable, tons of storage space, super clean bath and kitchen, hominess with much natural light. And did I mention excellent vintage character? I have always been treated with respect and recieved help for whatever I need. I feel completely safe here alone. Parking is avaliable and included and upon finally trying the restaurant below the hotel, it surpassed my expectations in every way (who knew a tiny piano bar was down ther next to fine cuisine?). Oh, and I have easy walking access to a beautiful park, a convenience store, and Hillcrest. 5 minute drive to downtown or the convention center. Perfect. The only reason not to stay here? if you prefer generic sterile chains or are homophobic. Otherwise, go for it. Its a choice that's fun and functional and good for your soul.

Best Value in San Diego
By ,
My Wife and I thoughly enjoyed our 3 day stay. Large, airy rooms. Old world style and charm. Staff friendly and accomodating. Across street from Balboa Park and views to die for. Very quiet at night and not bad during day.

Great staff, friendly and caring. Large rooms, spacious- kitchens are a bit dated. Awesome location-right on Balboa Park and near all major road ways. One of the best continenial breakfasts I've ever seen.

Great Place
By ,
Huge rooms - old but clean - at a great price. Near the Hillcrest section of San Diego - very active gay community so if that bothers you then you might not enjoy this hotel. Personally I found this place to be well run and in the center of everything.

A good, clean place for repeat guests!
By ,
We have been staying at Park Manor each visit to San Diego for the past 7 years. The staff are friendly and warm, remembering our name each visit (once or twice a year)from our first stay. They offer a nice breakfast on the roof each morning. The hotel is close to the airport, the park, and shopping. We absolutely LOVE the cuisine at the hotel restaurant!! We always eat there and stay late for drinks, (sometimes I even sing with the pianist!!) I highly recommend this place and will always go back!!
