Club Med, a Great experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/25/09
This was my second time on a Club Med vacation, although 20 years apart. I loved both my times at Club Med. This time I traveled with my husband and 2 kids (11 & 13). The food is buffet style and very good. Each night it was different so we never tired of the variety. There is everything from fish, turkish lamb, pasta to hamburgers and hot dogs. It is a very french resort, probably 75%, but it wasn't a problem. All the GO's were able to communicate in several languages. The only problem we had with language was sometimes understanding the MC for the evening show through his strong accent. We just took it as adding a little culture to our vacation. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We stayed in a deluxe suite which I would recommend. It is the middle range option and the location of these rooms are very central. I had read on one of the reviews to ask for a room by the pool and that was very good advice. The resort is very long and it could be a very long walk to your room. The pool is centrallly located and very convenient. Our kids did not try the ramp group but I heard only good things. The smaller kids clubs looked organized and the GO's looked enthusiastic but I don't think I could leave my young child with strangers. The sports were great. We did windsurfing, sailing, snorkling, trapeze (you have to try it), bocce ball, and kayaking. I was a little dissapointed in the snorkling. They offered off of the beach which was free but if you wanted to go out to the reef you had to go by boat which was an excursion. It was windy so the snorkling was closed every day from the beach due to the current. We had no choice but to take the excursion which was OK. I'm a little spoiled because the other Club Med (Turks and Caicos) I went to offered snorkling from the boat included for free and the reef was much better. That is the only thing that was better about Turks than Punta Cana. I didn't get to go to the nightclubs at night but it sounded like fun. They have photographers taking photos all week which are good but a little expensive. They will even take family photos by appointment but you have to buy the CD. In that case it is worth the $180 price because you could get 200-300 photos but we were not prepared clothes-wise. I would have brought more of our clothes matching for a photo. Also each night has a dress theme, ex. elegant white, elegant black. You'll be safe if you bring lots of white, some black and color. This is all optional but some people do dress up a lot. Men usually where a collared shirt to dinner. All and all this was a great club and great vacation and would love to go back. Excursions: We did 3 excursions and my son and husband played golf. We did the deep sea fishing, well worth it, snorkling was OK and we went to the Wild Ranch, what a blast. It was about $170 per person for the day but you got a lot for the money. We ziplined through the jungle and not just a quick trip. It was a good 1-2 hours long. We drove small dune buggys (boogie cars). What fun !!! And we kayaked. They served a snack and lunch which was very good. You also got to interact with some of the Dominican people who were very nice. The ranch is on a nature preserve and it has many animals also. This was an all day excursion from 8-6.
