Human Kindness
I had occasion to stay at the Courtyard at Marriott at Revere last weekend when my aunt became gravely ill and subsequently died. Then I stayed longer, for her funeral service. During my days at this hotel, the front desk staff was nothing but helpful, warm and gracious. Although they totally impressed me with their kindness, I admit that just this might not have motivated me to write you.
There was one incident that was exceptionally thoughtful. When I arrived Saturday night, I not only hadn't eaten the entire day, but did not even have the time to set my luggage in the room. My aunt was so ill that I feared not making it to Whidden Hospital in time. The clerk while answering the phone and checking me in, at the same time managed to apprise my situation,as I took a cell phone call with news from the hospital. She, while not being intrusive in the least, was nonetheless concerned about my needs. I was obviously being given information, and she quickly supplied me with paper and pencil. While I took in the gravity of what was being said to me over the phone, the clerk was on the internet finding a map and directions to Whidden Hospital. By the time I ended the call, she was ready with my room key, a print-out with map and written directions, AND a packaged sandwich. This last, it turned out, was her own dinner. She claimed to have already eaten a salad and was full, but somehow I think she was demonstrating the best of human graciousness. But actually, the entire staff consistently in this same manner.
