Avoid this place like the plague!

On Saturday, September 5, 2009 my wife and I decided at the last minute to go to Pigeon Forge, Tn for the Labor Day weekend. I got online and looked for rooms to see if any were available. Most were booked., but I did find one called Grand Resorts Hotel. The pictures looked OK, as did the write up. I called reservations and had a detailed conversation about room types and the condition of the hotel. On three or four different occasions during the call I asked if the hotel was at least three star or better in quality and was told definitely so. Since the weather was a little cool and we were interested in swimming, I asked about the pool, which the description said was outdoor and heated. They confirmed that it was. I booked an executive suite, with I was told had one king bed, a fireplace, and a sitting area.
I arrived tired at about 10:00pm and checked in. At that time, they printed a credit card slip for the two nights stay and asked me to sign it. I thought this was a little strange having stayed in hundreds of hotels, but did it anyway. When I entered the hotel area with my suitcase I started to have a bad feeling. The rooms were very old looking with metal walls and metal doors. Most seems to be not occupied with the curtains open and beds made. The AC units emptied on to the walkways and both were stained with rust. The windows of some rooms were broken and taped. When we got to our room, it was no different. The room was basically two old motel rooms that had the wall knocked out and made into one big room. In the corner where one bathroom had been they had installed a hot tub. The beige carpet was old and stained. The room was very dark and dim. There seemed to be no other rooms occupied on the whole side of the building where this room is. My wife was very alarmed and scared. We immediately called the front desk and told them there was some problem. First, this was NOT the room we had reserved and second the hotel is a dump. I was told that the room we had booked had been rented to someone else and we had been “upgraded” to this room. I told the lady that I would be right down there. We dragged our luggage back the long trip to the car and went to the office. I told them this was not the room I had reserved and furthermore the hotel was NOT a three star hotel or better as I had been told. The lady, who appeared to be the manager, told me that it absolutely was three star or better and that they had just recently been there to accredit it. I told her that the room was unacceptable and that I wanted to forget it. She told me that I had already signed a credit card charge and that I was NOT getting my money back. I told her numerous times that this was deception and that there was no way this was a three star or better hotel, to which she said it was. At all times in my contact with her she was rude and smug acting. There were numerous problems with the room, which we did not bother to report due to her attitude. One of the AC units was leaking water inside the room and the carpet was soaked for 3-4 feet around it. I discovered this when I took my shoes off. The appliances were dingy and dirty and covered with grease. The bathroom was tiny and the hairdryer was stuck on the wall with tape and fell off when you tried to use it. The room was decorated in 1960’s décor and was extremely tacky. When we went down to the pool we discovered that other people there felt exactly the way we did and were very frustrated and STUCK. Then we were told the pool was NOT heated and the water was bone chilling cold. I went back to my room and started searching the internet for this hotel. I found that AAA rated the hotel “two stars”, so they ALL definitely lied to me. Avoid this place like the plague!
