Don't believe the lies
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/29/09
We were looking to reserve a block of rooms for our wedding guests (needing about 15-20 rooms). When I called on Friday to request a single room rate for the specific weekend, I was quoted a price of $99. When I called on Monday and spoke to the "manager" I was quoted a group rate of $99. When I pointed out that this was the same rate quoted to me previously, I was told that the person was wrong, a "new clerk" or not for the time I requested (ridiculous because I specified the dates). I will be recommending that my guests go elsewhere on principle (and they can find just as nice for the same price)

I will definitely be back to stay.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/25/09
I stayed for 5 days and it was fantastic. The room was very clean, the staff was very personable and helpful. They took care of everything I needed or asked for with a smile. The location was great and I could walk anywhere and felt safe. I thank Cookie for giving me any information I asked for. The staff that was on duty when I was there, were wonderful. I was visiting my daughter that lives in Hermosa Beach and I was very comfortable staying at this hotel. My husband will becoming back with me in the fall and we will be booking a room at Hotel Hermosa. Thank you again hotel staff. Jan F. from Minnesota

Clean but rude!!!
By EZ4LIFE, 01/02/09
I have stayed at this hotel before and the customer service NEVER improves. You can say, "good morning, how are you?" and not get a response. Some of the worst customer service I have ever encountered!!! DO NOT stay on the street side, unless you don't want to sleep. Beds and pillows are comfy and they don't use the cheap bedspreds. They need to add waffles to their breakfast, like most hotels. Sorry, I am so negative, but I drove 6 hours to stay at this hotel to see my family over the holidays. I requested a room not on the street side and got a rude reception. I told my husband that I wouldn't stay here again. There is a Holiday Inn Express down the street.

excellent
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/19/08
Get an inside room with a view of the ocean. Was greeted with a smile and had one everytime we went by the front desk. Forgot toothpaste at home and they even had a small tube waiting there with the shampoo. One of the quietest hotels I have ever stayed in. Looking forward to going back to Hotel Hermosa again. Morning "complimentary" breakfast was perfect. Not too much, Not too little. Eating breakfast outside, looking out at the ocean was FANTASTIC!

Never again, seriously, never again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/29/07
A friend booked this hotel for a girl friends weekend. The elevator smelled of urine, the hallways smelled of mildew and the room smelled of cigarette smoke, vomit and mildew and an attempt to cover it up with A LOT of air freshener. For four women we were given four threadbare, thin towels and told by the desk clerk that four people get four towels. This room had seen better days with chipped paint, a cracked ceiling and a balcony sliding door that locked some of the time. This was supposed to be an ocean view room - it was, if you stood on tiptoes in the very corner of the balcony and strained up to see over the adjacent apartment complex. Parking at night was a nightmare, because all the garage spaces were full. The continental breakfast area was so dirty that we decided to go out for breakfast. There wasn't even any coffee and no one to make any. Most disturbing, however, was that when we returned from breakfast, someone had obviously gone through our luggage. At the time, it appeared that nothing was missing. We brought this to the attention of the manager who called us liars and said she absolutely trusted her housekeeping staff. Later, two of my friends noticed unauthorized charges to their credit cards. This hotel is not close to anything. It's on a busy street with a lot of traffic noise. It is at the top of a steep hill, which made roller blading to the beach too dangerous. I am so sorry that I ever set foot in this Hotel.

disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/22/06
Given a room for 2 adults, we were 4. Reception areas were very impressive but room was very small, had to leave a case in the car, well worn and a bit shabby. No iron or ironing board in room. You can collect one from reception but no space to put it up in the room anyway. Our room overlooked the busy intersection so quite noisy at night. Small pool, screened but also alongside the vey busy road and ony a few loungers. Not impressed by breakfast. No option other than to take the lift even if you were just going up one floor. Internet access expensive.

The experience is what you make it!

A friend of mine and I planned to have an "overnighter" as a mini vacation. the Hotel Hermosa was booked and once we got there the outside of this hotel was pleasant. We checked in and to our shagrin we were informed that we overpaidfor the room by booking online...this was interesting because you cant actully book your room online from the website. When trying to book your room online it tells you to call the hotel, where they insist on your credit card info. Next, they say that they take AAA cards for a discount...but only if you dont book online. My friend insisted that she didnt book online, but somehow they had her info. My next complaint was the "jacuzzi" This MINITUB advertised as an amenity was barely big enough for two grown adults. The room was neat and there were no shortage of towels. Since Pier Avenue is closeby, you'd figure it would be easy to get a cab...nope!...we stood outside and waited for nearly 45 mins for a cab to show up....we could have walked to the pier in that amount of time...but my friend was wearing heels. The mentioned price on here says around $99...it's more like $145...but overall... my expectations werent high...it was just a place to rest my head after drinking for 14 hours straight.

I have been staying at this hotel 3 to 4 times a year for about 4 years. The staff is great and the rooms are neat and clean. I highly recommend it!

Worst hotel ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/20/05
The hotel is in bad shape. The paint is chipping and is ugly. It is too expensive for the way it looks. I paid over $100 for a crappy little room. The attendant at Front Desk was rude. We checked in late in the day, and she was chewing her gum and reading a book. She acted as if we were interupting her. We called down for more towels and it took over an hour to get some towels brought up. I could have gone to the store and bought towels faster than that. it's ridiculous. Their jacuzzi also had weak jets. Very not worth it!
