actually very nice
when you talk about San Diego, you think big hotels with big price tags. there are smaller hotels, that you hope are still nice even though their prices tags are one-third that of the larger sites. the Days Inn is a nice little hotel, not incredibly luxurious (so don't take your new wife there for your honeymoon) but i was pleasantly surprised. yes, it did have a smell, but it smelled like every small hotel does (you know what i mean, its that odd antiseptic hotel smell, not unpleasant, just what you expect when you open the door).
my ratings are based on a small hotel. it is nice, for a small hotel. not perfect, but nice. the showerhead could have been better, too.
had a kitchen (with full sized refridgerator, microwave, sink, cabinets... very nice). the only problem that i found was that it is difficult to access from the freeway. make sure you use the maps or driving directions because it took me 30 minutes to wind around to find it. afterwards, getting back to the freeway and back to the hotel was easy, its just that first time that's tough.
also, the hotel is next to the freeway, so try to ask for a room on the opposite side.
enjoy your stay but don't expect the Hilton/Marriott/Radisson, just expect a nice little hotel for the price... oh yes, the staff are very pleasant and polite too.
