The Econo Lodge on 15th Street in Augusta, Georgia is within walking distance of The Medical Center of Georgia. My daughter was scheduled to have surgery and my husband asked one of the nurses if she had any motel recommendations. She suggested the Econo Lodge right across the street. My husband booked 4 nights. We did not even consider checking it out first due to the recommendation. We also assumed that it was probably clean due to the proximity to a major medical center and the fact that it probably served those with loved ones in the hospital. After checking in, my first impression was that the room looked dirty. However, we were exhausted and needed to eat so we could get to bed for a 6:30am hospital arrival. We went out to dinner and calmed our daughter about her surgery which would begin in 14 hours. We came back to the motel and my daughter took her first of two pre-surgery showers. We were all ready for bed after an exhausting day when my daughter saw a bug in her bed. Upon further inspection, we found that both beds were infested with bed bugs. So at 10:30 at night we had to find another hotel room and prayed that we did not take any bugs with us. We took very little into the hospital with us, leaving bags, etc. in the car. Our daughter was in the hospital for four days. We are home tonight tending to our daughter after unloading everything out of our car into the garage. We did not bring any luggage into our home and we are washing everything as we bring it in. My sister's family spent months being eaten up by bed bugs at night before finding proof that there were indeed bed bugs. It took getting up in the middle of the night with a flashlight to find them. For us to see so many bugs in both beds is inexcusable.
