ugh.....very?
By ,
The resort and rooms are VERY dated, the beds are VERY hard, the food is VERY bad. We visited the Melia Cabo Real over Thanksgiving. The beds were so hard that my wife developed issues with her lower back. The food available during the day was not good. We were usually able to find something passable at the buffet, but "passable" was about it. We preferred to dine in Cabo for dinner, however with the $30 cab fare in each direction this turned out to be an expensive option. If you do stay at this resort, it is a MUST to make reservations at one of their restaurants. Also, there are not near enough lounge chairs by the pool. If you plan to spend any time reading, sunning or drinking poolside, get your chairs by 8 am or you'll be looking for a spot on the grass. While the service and was good and very helpful, I would give the Melia Cabo Real a pass.

It was lovely, but.....
By ,
We loved the pool, The beach was fantastic, warm as bath water! The service from the hotel desk, the maids, the bartenders, waiters, etc was fantastic! They really made you feel welcome and like they were dedicated to making your stay a great one! That being said, there were a few problems. The room smelled very damp, moldy even. The beds were hard as rocks, even a foam pad from the front desk didn't help! The food at the buffet was hit and miss, some things were great, some were so so, and some were downright awful. Desserts in particular, were terrible, pretty but they all seem to be made up of mostly foam and gelatin. The chimichangas cooked directly outside of the buffet were great, all the food cooked at that station was very good. At the snack station by the pool, the food was average, the only complaint I had was that the cheese sauce for the nachos was so watered down that when I pushed the pump, it squirted all over my plate and onto my swimming suit. The drinks were good most of the time, although the gentleman at the walk up section of the bar was much better at the drinks then the younger gentleman manning the swim up section. The landscaping was lovely, very pretty, especially at night with the lights around the palm tree trunks. Our room was quite large, tho the tub was extremely small, the water pressure and temp were fantastic, however! The TV went on the fritz, but they promptly came and replaced it after we informed the front desk. If I were to go back it would be because of the staff, they were awesome! However, I feel I would like to see what the other resorts had to offer.

Relaxing experience
By ,
What we loved most was the attitude of the people. Waiters, maids, concierges, even the gatekeeper, made an effort to recognize and greet us. Everyone was smiling, even the housekeeping staff, despite rain water leaking in from every crack and crevice - especially from the stained glass pyramid above the central lobby stairs. They made us feel welcome and all did their best to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. We would have liked a few fans in the open-air restaurants to provide needed breezes in the humidity. The pool is huge and refreshing - we think they must add refrigerated water to cool it in the heat. The "gardens" are zen-like in their design and cleanliness. Melia is a large facility with lots of stairs and few elevators. Plan to walk a lot to get to various areas. The spa was wonderful and I'd highly recommend their relaxing massages. We'll definitely return.

Great Place to Stay
By ,
This place is awesome. The employees were friendly and helpfull. We got an Ocean View room and it was very spacious and nice. We will definitely be coming back. The food was good, not 5 star, but better than expected. The Asian resturant was by far the best, followed by the International resturaunt, which suffered from slow service (but it had the best ambiance). Lighting in the Asian and International restaurants was horrible, it was like eating in a dungeon! All in all - great place.

Don't think twice, Go elsewhere
By ,
We left our iPod in the room and it was stolen (most likely) by hotel staff. Management and security conducted what they call 'an investigation' which included asking the maid if she took the device. They (of course) didn't get back to us at the time they promised with an answer for their 'investigation' and we had to chase them for an answer, which was that they don't know where it is. Then they started their cover up operation, left a note in the room on the last day of our stay saying we left valuables in the room. They referred to mainly the laptop which cannot be placed into a safe due to its size, but the note was still left out so they can claim they "are doing their job" in protecting your stuff. Don't risk it, there are better hotels out there where you feel they really care about your belongings and respect you. Bottom line, very disappointing experience and poor customer service.

Great Time!
By ,
My best friend and I really wanted to get away so we spent a week at Melia Cabo Real. I truly enjoyed my stay!! When you walk into the lobby it is open and airy. Decorated nicely. I would have to decribe it as a "relaxed chic". Our room was ok. Was definitely spacious enough for two, and they upgraded us to a great room with views of the pool as well as the ocean. It was definitely clean which is always a plus! I really enjoyed the food, and having breakfast outside on the terrace with those ocean views is an amazing way to start the day. The pool was fun, and the beach is fantastic and swimmable! Definitely rent jet skis on the resort's beach. The staff was extremely friendly and the service at the restaurants were great. Make sure to get a "Mexican Coffee" after dinner! Location is great. About 20 minutes to San Jose and 20 minutes to downtown Los Cabos. There are lots of tours and activities that you can book at the hotel, with transportation included. I reccomend the "Glass Bottom Boat Tour" and "The Bar Hopper" tour. FInal plus, we got massages on the beach. Fantastic!

Loved it and am going back in May with husband
By ,
Check in was quick and efficient. The restaurants were all excellent and never had a problem with them being booked, even when we went in the afternoon to get a reservation. Once we just walked up to the one on the outside and were seated w/o any reservation. The buffet gets boring in the morning but there are enough options how can people complain. Have some fresh fruit, and they will make you almost anything you ask for if you do so nicely. I had french toast on call. That review from the guy in April, UGH... he just was not happy because of HIS inadequacies, not the hotels. The beds are firm, but two normal sized people can fit in one queen. We had a king, but another couple had two queens and I'm confident had no problems cuddling at night. We went snorkeling daily in the little beach area. The beach bar was rarely open but you just go back upstairs to use the restroom anyway, so just grab what you need while you're up there. OR if you're nice like me, one of the many friendly staff will gladly get you one or three drinks if you ask! or just send your husband :) The massage was AMAZING, and I get massages twice a month back home and this lady at Melia was wonderful I tipped her $50 ...I can't wait to get back. The TENNIS COURTS are on the roof! Again, the April review would have know that if he asked, we walked past the sign that said "tennis courts upstairs" constantly, and you get the rackets and balls at the front desk...There Are Tennis Courts! I complain about a lot of things, but this hotel is not one of them. Oh, I did tell them the pool was getting dingy and they quickly extra cleaned it that night. We had a rental car, so were able to get around to go scuba diving three times during our stay and went shopping in Cabo and San Jose... again no problems. There is a shuttle for free that takes you into the city, but comes back early in the evening, so cab it back or share with another couple, or take the bus which is pennies right outside the hotel to save some money. Like I said, we're going back next month and will enjoy ourselves then too. I never write reviews, but after seeing the one star, had to say something.

Like Being Stuck on a Bad Cruise!
By ,
If you want a resort with all the shortcomings of a cruise ship that never leaves port and never arrives at your destination then Melia is for you! The visibly aging resort arguably has larger and more spacious grounds than newer ones, with a prime pick for location. But while the view of the beach is beautiful to look at it's not functional. You can admire it from a distance . . . kinda like a cruise. The pool is the resort's best feature but its tranquility is lost on a mess of cheesy party activities conducted by smug resort workers. The free alcohol is distinctly watered down, only worsened by the paltry bartending skills. Thankfully for them the all-inclusive food was "free" because there's no way I would have paid the bill for what they call "food" - something understandable on a moving water but not so excusable on land. Granted it wouldn't stop overweight white trash from piling their plates (the same people trashed at the pool on the watered down booze), but we were truthfully only able to tolerate the omelets, bacon, hamburgers and . . . that's it. Even the french fries didn't stand a chance. Of course even when hunger takes over finding food it isn't easy! Upon check-in we were told room service was open till 10:30, so imagine our surprise (and chagrin) when we called at 10:02 and learned it was closed for the night and we would go to bed hungry. A fate only made worse by the stone tablet pillows and mattresses, and that for our romantic getaway we slept in two separate beds shoved together to make one and couldn't even get under the covers together to comfort each other during our horrid vacation. A fate made equally romantic by the fact that the bathroom door would never close and the shower/tub was too small to share. At the end of the day, even the most amorous, passionate and active couple (us) could only look at each other and say "I'm tired and bored." When the only action going on at night on the resort was watching middle-aged midwesterners going wild to mariachi music, even the unlimited alcohol totally loses appeal. Rather than spend $50-$60 on cab fare to and from Cabo San Lucas just to restart our pulses we decided to stick it out onboard our cruise and save the money. The only thing all-inclusive about this resort was a sense of disappointment. If you have a high tolerance for low quality and enjoyed your best vacation on a bad cruise then by all means go! If you're looking for something more inviting and comfortable we recommend the resort next doors, the Hilton. We were envious. FYI: NO there are not tennis courts on the premises (they're at another resort significantly far away), golf is ridiculously expensive ($200+ before 3PM), there are NOT THREE shuttles into Cabo daily (sometimes only 1) and the non-motorized water activities on the beach are non-existent. If you can fly direct to Cabo DO IT!!! We lost time (1/3 our vacation), luggage and sanity dealing with US Airways - an airline I believe was created just to test people's frustration tolerance and sanity.
