OK Hotel - Terrible staff, mgmnt and rip-off fees
By Steve M, 01/19/10
The good = The hotel was nice. Very cute for a Best Western. The location is terrific. The bad = Watch your wallet! They charge $42 a day for parking. Complete rip-off when you can park literally next door for $15 a day - but they don't want to tell you about that. Also, the parking valet service was the worst!!! We waited nearly a half hour to get our car out in the AM, and when we called management, he wouldn't allow us to get our own car out of the lot. Upon complaining at check out, they only gave us a $15 credit towards the crummy parking service. Don't drink the water either - it'll cost you $6.00 per bottle (in the fine print) on the bottle. Also, they like to charge you for the safe in the room each day -whether you use it or not... How about for charging for the the iron or the doorknob??? Like I said, watch your wallet and don't have high expectations on service.

Nice location...terrible staff...
By Hope, 09/17/09
When we checked into the Hotel, we were given a 'double' room instead of the King we had booked for our romantic weekend. When confronted about the 'mistake' on their part we were told that we were wrong, until we showed the girl at the front desk our print off from Hotels.com. Instead of apologizing and correcting the issue, we were told that nothing could be done until the next day. Not even a smile was sent our way. The Tuscan staff moved our packed luggage into the new room, and my husband and I discovered that both of our phone chargers were missing. When we approached the Manager about this, we were accused of not packing them to begin with. Finally, we were told that the Manager would run out and purchase our charges that day and overnight them to our home. None of this was done, and now we are forced to go and purchase them ourselves. Nothing has been done to correct our issues while staying at the Tuscan. This experience has left a very poor taste in our mouths, and we will definitely never stay there again. I will also make it a point to never recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family that travel to San Francisco in the future. Which is a pity, because the location was great and we met two very nice front office staff out of the six we encountered.

A Great Place to Stay!
By Nancy, 08/15/09
This hotel is the perfect location if you want to stay near Fisherman's Wharf. It's about two blocks away, so you don't have all the tourist traffic, yet it is easy to get to everything. The hotel is great-- service is excellent, from the front desk staff to the concierge. The room was clean and big enough for two. We will definitely stay here again when we visit San Francisco.

Never again!!
By Mary C, 08/05/09
Stayed one night. It was our anniversary and had requested a nice room with a view of some kind. We opened the door and I couldn't believe how small this room was! I have had rooms on cruise ships twice this size! There was no view. Loud street noise down below. Nothing special for the price which was way high and they charged $42 to park our car.... so it was about $300 .... for a "closet"! I love to stay in Best Western hotels .... we do so often. This was the worst. I don't know how they fit a bed in there .... it was that small! The only good thing I have to say is this hotel is close to things and one can walk and go to Fisherman's Wharf and other places. That's it! I went there with expectations based on what I had told the BW rep. and she had promised me a nice room with a view. Never again! That $300 was wasted and our anniversary spoiled. Of course, I did go walking and have an Irish coffee at the Buena Vista Cafe.... a must if you enjoy those .... so all wasn't bad.

Over-rated

I carefully researched where to stay before I booked my hotel for a recent trip to San Francisco and decided on this property. We stayed at other hotels in California as we were traveling Hwy 1 and this was the worst. I took Frommer's suggestion and was greatly disappointed considering it was not cheap. The junior suite was very small for two adults and two teenage children, but I have come to learn that it is very standard in major, older urban areas that if you want a hotel room in a great location, you will have to sacrifice a few square feet, although I was able to deal with the small amount of space, the hotel as a whole just missed the mark. The concierge that was on duty the day we arrived was so unapproachable. He just seemed annoyed that we were asking him a question. The girl on duty the next day was very pleasant though. Other staff were also not very helpful. For example it was a busy Saturday night and we needed a cab to go to AT&T park for a game. We asked the bellman for a cab and he said to stand in front of the hotel because they come down the street. We stood there for fifteen minutes with no luck and asked another bellman who got us a cab. The beds are horribly uncomfortable. The room needs some TLC (i.e. peeling wallpaper, paint to name a couple.) Be careful at check out because they added on fees (safe in room usage?) that we didn't even use. I would look at other properties before I make a reservation here. The location to the wharf was very good, but the staff was very inconsistent.

OK, but not very happy.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/21/09
If you book your stay here through Hotels.Com or any related travel services on this site, they promise you a free breakfast and free parking. Dont believe it. What they dont tell you is that the hotel wont accomodate for any of this, although they did lower my parking rate for my inconvenience. I've called Hotels.Com three times, the last time I was on hold for twenty minutes to a supervisor, I finally gave up. Also, the partial reimbursement they said they would credit my account has never shown up. After speaking to another guest, the same situation occured to them as well as a few other guest.Good luck.

Won't Go Back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/08
My friend opened the door to the room and said, " I smell mold." I know she is super fastidious, so my husband and I switched with her. That night as I took a relaxing bath, I looked over at the toilet bowl...there was black mold growing at the bend where bowl meets pedestal. When I got out, I saw it on both sides. Next morning I complained to front desk to have front desk clean it...came back that night. They'd cleaned one side of the bowl....can you believe?????

Don't stay here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/19/08
I was told that they required 24 hours notice to change reservations. I had reservations for three nights, checked in and told them after the first night that I would not be staying the third night (giving them the required 24 hour notice). They charged me $75 as an early departure fee despite my giving them the required 24 hours notice of my change in plans.

My Little Secret
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/28/08
This is the most convienently located hotel for the price. At night they have free wine tasting in the lobby, in the morning coffe tea & sweets. They have a wonderful massage therapist named Sung Soo that give massages in a chair for gratuity only, during the wine tasting. Easy walking distance to so many things, a couple blocks off the wharf, around the corner from Cost Plus & a grocery store. Walking distance to Mama's, the best place for breakfast. Cafe Pescatore is really good. Best part, you can fly in to Oakland air flights are much cheaper) & take a shuttle for next to nothing that will drop you off at the front door, & pick you up as well. You don't have to rent a car, but if you need one, the rental company is right across the street. Who could ask for anything more?

DONNA AND DOLLIE'S ADVENTURE
By susan, 12/10/07
What a wonderful place I choose for a vacation with the charm of Italy around you,its feels like a breath of fresh air. The Tuscan was so clean and with a great staff that remembers your name and tends to your every needs. I stayed for 5 days and every need was met. I look forward to going again hopefully sooner than I think. You wont go wrong for picking this place in walking distance of everything.
