Ask about what's available at Hotel!!!!
Desk and maintenance people very friendly and try to help in most cases. Hotel seems to change owners quite often over last ten years. New owners trying hard, however pool is a problem. Only open Fridays thru Sunday at 6pm. Desk got a little upset when face to face complaint about pool.

Also never again
By Cynthia Hood, 3/9/08
We just returned from a volleyball tournament. We have traveled for years and have stayed at many different places, and believe me, I am not picky. The hotel has a musty, dirty, run down feel to it. Our room was very dusty and the curtains were stained. The carpeting did not feel or look clean. Though our sheets were clean, one of our other families had a room with dirty sheets. The staff was happy to change rooms for them. The staff was very nice, but they were understaffed. After the first night, two of our rooms still had not had maid service by 5:00 p.m. and our rooms had been empty all day. Upon calling the front desk, we were asked if we were ok with just getting some clean towels. The bar in the lobby was closed....some problem with their liquor license. I will say that the breakfast buffet was very good and service in the restaurant was excellent. It is always nice to have good food ready when you have athletes on a tight schedule. The Clarion looks like it was once a very nice hotel that has been left to seed. We have rooms booked there for a future tournament and definately plan to cancel them.

very expensive
By Gerry S, 2/18/07
I travelled to Louisville with a group for four days to attend the Oaks and Derby.I found the Clarion not bad but it was a long walk to our rooms. The price was way to much as I know all the hotels are for Derby time. Not many places near by that you can walk to for a meal. The breakfasts were pretty good, and the price not bad and a good variety. We plan on going back this year only because nothing else was available.

Price and Location are great!!
By Erica, 8/31/06
We stayed here for a cheerleading competition in Sept. 06. Our experience was not bad at all. We had a few problems with air, toliet but hotel staff was more than willing to help us out even at 2am!! The problems were fixed and they even offered to switch us rooms! The price was great and the girls loved the pool. We used a conference room for cheerleading practice and it was more than spacious. The hotel is close to many restraunts and attractions the only downfall is there is no breakfast, if so you had to pay, and the setup of hallways are kinda confusing. Once you figured them out you were fine! :) We would definitly stay there again!!

Birthday Trip:
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/06
I recently stayed 4 nighta at this establishment. Aug.4 Thru Aug. 8 2006. The staff was very friendly and acccommodating for our our needs. My Daughter and Her husband joined us for 2 days as a present from us. We visited the Muhamadid Ali Museuem, Louisville Slugger Plant, Took a river boat ride and went to Churchill Downs. We had brunch at the Oakman Room at the Speelman Hotel and ove all had a great time. We relaxed by the pool and enjoyed the closeness of everything. Thanks for a great experience including the food at Christy's. I will come back and reccommend your Hotel to friends. Ron Quinn and Holly Henderson

never again
The old saying goes you get what you pay for ,right? Guess we should have thought of that before staying in this hotel. Our room had a musty smell, dirty carpet mildew in the bathtub, and to top it all, a live cockroach in our ceiling light. When I told the front desk about our friend in the light, the man at the desk said he did not know how to deal with the situation, and could not give me another room. I later came back and someone else at the desk got maintenance to remove the bug from my room, no apologies or room discounts. Breakfast on site is $6.95 a person, we did not partake ,as service was too slow and we had early soccer games. No complimentary coffee on site, coffee was $1.86 w/ tax for one cup. Do yourself a favor spend a little more and stay somewhere nicer, but above all, cleaner.

Worst hotel experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/3/06
We stayed at this hotel because we had a gymnastic meet at the Conference Center. I would NEVER stay here again. The hallways were dirty and smelled really bad. There was trash outside our door. The beds were small and pillows were small. If you get the room with the two full sized beds, they do not have a cot available that will fit inside the room. We were so uncomfortable with 5 people in the room. I tried to call the front desk from the room phone and from my cell phone and it just rang and rang. We didn't even try the pool (we have 3 children) it just didn't feel clean at all. We are not picky travelers - but I am going to check reviews from now on. I learned my lesson the hard way!

Horrible hotel!
By Teri, 3/26/06
I decided to stay at this hotel for the ameneties. The gameroom was horrible...most of the games didn't work; the pool tables didn't work. There was no sauna. According to the lifeguard, it was torn down a year ago. The "heated" pool was very cold. The service was terrible. At 5 PM, my room was not available (check in was at 3). I requested extra pillows for our room. The pillows that were in the room were smaller than standard sized pillows. I was told that I would be put on a waiting list for the pillows. They never came. The fax machine available to the guests didn't work. I would certainly not recommend this hotel to anyone and I will never be returning there or any other Clarion.
