updated w/great staff & just a few minor issues
My fiance works out of town so on occasion I take off work to go on the road with him for a "working vacation" (he works durning the day then we go out doing the vacation thing at night). Knowing he was going to be in chicago & knowing what Chicago has to offer we took this opportunity for one of those vacations. He chose this hotel because it was on his list of approved places through his work & the pictures & ratings were exceptional. We also know from experience sometimes those are "exaggerated". We were plesently surprised when we arrived after a 10 hour drive. We arrived around 8pm and the staff at the front desk was very nice & helpful, probably the best yet! The lobby was very nice and updated & check in was a breeze. Walking down to the room we noticed the carpet seriously needed a shampooing but the walls were freshly painted & everything else looked very clean & it even SMELLED nice. The room we were in was VERY updated & modern & extremly nice with the basic ammenities (the high ceilings are impressive!). There was a small fridge in the room but the only microwave was in the lobby which was ok because when we stayed the lobby was usually empty. The bed was probably one of the most comfortable we've ever stayed on...not too firm but not too soft and my fiance was excited that they had a flat screen instead of the outdated box type tv. The bathroom was clean however the towels (were clean) had a funny smell...maybe that was just me though. The wi-fi connection was painless & simple. Because he works out of town, my fiance has to do his laundry on the road usually so he always takes advangtage of hotel laundrys. The exit map on the door showed a laundry however when he headed down to that direction he was stopped by the front desk. They told him it must be a mistake, the do not have a laundry. The courtesy directory book in the room listed pick up laundry service availableand the times/proceedure (and there was a laundry bag in the closet) so we decided to take advantage of that instead. When I called the front desk to ask about a price she said it must be a mistake...they don't offer that either but she offered to give us direcitons to a laundry mat. The next day while my fiance was at work I decided to take advantage of the gym/jacuzzi/indoor pool. First was the gym which consisted of an elliptical, stationary bike & treadmill. The treadmill worked for about 5 minutes then quit so I moved to the bike. It didn't power on at all but could be used without electricity so wasn't a total loss then the elliptical kicked my butt! It was great. The room tempature was a nice & cool & towels were provided as was another flat screen. The chlorine smell in the pool area burned my eyes & nose walking through to the gym so I changed my mind on that (It was very clean though & towels were provied there too). I did notice it cleared out some in the next few days. The breakfast provided isn't bad either. It's basic with muffins & bagels & toast & cereal but you can also make waffles & they provide eggs & bacon or sausage & a juice & milk bar and the coffee wasn't bad either. The parking is minimal. The hotel is away from the big city life enough to be cozy but close enough that you can find food/shopping & downtown Chicago in just minutes. Overall this is an excellent updated hotel with great staff & just a few minor issues. (ps:as i'm typing this I heard shampooers going up & down the hall so maybe even that wont be an issue??!!)
