Absolutely the worst
By ,
1) Check in time: 4 pm, did not get rooms until 6 pm 2) Problems with my card key to let me into the rooms, waited half and hour for them to deliver it...finally went to desk...no apology 3) I have 3 small kids, was not able to get rooms with a joining door...told me that I had to get a suite, ended up billing me twice the amount on my credit card...only after a bunch of red tape...they finally said sorry. 3) I have been around the world to 5 star hotels (Thailand, ect), absolutely the worst front desk service and admistration...Left a message with the head manager of the resort, Mr So, got a call from his assistant who only offered me an "ok" apology. I would stay at the Best Western over the St. Regis...no joke. 4) Only positives: the Sunday brunch is excellent, they serve treats for kids at the pool (popsicles) and give a welcome gift to the kids. Truly this is a review by someone who never complains or files formal complaints.

A Beautiful Place But At What Cost???
By ,
We just spent 9 days at this gorgeous resort with the kids. While I must say it is a breathtaking place to stay it comes with some serious defects. We travel every year to a five star resort and this one for sure fell short. The rooms were nice, clean and had all the amenities one would expect. There was supposed to be nightly turn down service however it was hit or miss if you got it. We got it about 20% of the time and that was when we called and begged. The food was nice, but WAY over priced, we had a package where it included overnight parking and a $50 credit for breakfast, the credit doesn't go far, but it does at least put a dent in it. The eggs benedict was great. Room service was good however it took forever for them to retrieve the cart. The most disappointing part was the tram service to the beach. I knew ahead of time that the hotel required us to take a golf cart down to the beach, but it is sold as being very easy and having constant tram availability. That it hasn't...We would wait sometimes up to 30 minutes for a tram and twice had to get out because it ran out of battery. They use battery powered golf carts and in Dana Point with all the hills that burns alot of battery. There were only 1 or 2 running at a time and we stayed in the summer so people were waiting a long time. Guests would get belligerent about the tram and would start pushing their way ahead of the line. I witnessed one fist fight between two men over a seat. There was no-one from The St. Regis there to take names so that it could be a civilized experience. All in all the trip was amazing, it really is beautiful, but remember two things, you pay for the luxury and you will have to wait for the tram the beach is worth the wait though and so are the mai tai's on the beach...

EXCELLENT
By ,
As you can see from the pictures, this place is great. Tbe best part was, famous rapper Ludacris was staying in the room right next to mine. How great? If Ludacris and celeberties are staying there, that tells you something.

St. Regis Monarch Beach
By ,
This tends to be Jess and I's local place for a "getaway". It's not cheap but our time-share points allow us to stay there for free. Paying $500+ a night for a room would be painful. And $175 for a round of golf is just ridiculous. Anyways... Beautiful hotel located on the cliffs of Dana Point. Nice restaurants, we prefer Motif which is tapas-centric so we tend to have a long meal and order till we are almost full. The eggs benedict is by far the best we have had so I recommend in the morning. Although breakfast for two in the room is close to $80. Again, this is a treat but treats are good. Spa Gaugin is great as well. Great service. WAY overprices but oh well.

A Room With A View!
By ,
My husband took me there for a surprise romantic weekend when we were first dating. The resort had been open for 2 weeks, so everything was brand new and beautiful. Our room was amazing/beautiful and our view was amazing. It overlooked the beach/pool. When we arrived we headed to the bar and had a few drinks - excellent service. First class service, there was not anything that we did not like. The food was great. There is a little private restaurant on the beach for special memebers only and you are driven on a golf cart to it. It was so romantic and secluded we fell in love with it. We felt like we were the only ones at the resort and were treated so well. We plan on going back for the romantic weekend we had.

not worth it
By ,
little dogs are allowed on the property; my husband got bitten by fleas in our room; the dogs were yappy and loud. I had a problem with my bill, they charged me for all these things and then the woman at the front desk gave me an arrogant look when I questioned them. I just received my credit card statement and it is still wrong!!

Great Experience
By ,
We spent a few days here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The resort is gorgeous, set on a rise about a half mile from the beach, with a beautiful pool, lawn and golf course fronting the view to the ocean. No matter, the short 5 minute shuttle ride to the beach takes you to a private and casually elegant beach club, with a cliff-protected beach, clean water, grassy area and restaurant/bar. The food at the club was good, but pricey, but heck, drinks on the beach! BTW- the Ritz may be on the beach, but on top of a cliff and a long walk/tram ride to the beach..and no beach club. The service was tops, as to be expected of a 5 star resort. Refined, but not stuffy. If you asked directions, all the help would show you and escort you. All were well trained. There was a power outage in the area one morning and within minutes, the entire staff was at each stairwell, helping guests. How they reponded so quickly was the mark of good training and management. There is a nice pool area (2 actually) with food and beverage service. Very good fitness center, with free entry. Had breakfast each morning in the restaurant...great omelettes. Lunch by the pool was also very good, albeit pricey. The concierge was very helpful and recommended some nice dining spots. Book the indulge package that gets you a $50/day breakfast credit and free valet parking, that is a whopping $28/per day.Our package was $420/night. Rooms are spacious, with a great bed, stylish furnishings, luxurious marble bath with separate tub and shower. Views are mostly of the resort and grounds, though nice. South wing building facing front will get you the ocean view in the distance. Overall, it was almost like going to Maui, in terms of peaceful, laid back environment, beautiful rooms and grounds, high prices and nice enough beach. Service was actually better here. No long plane ride either. A great get-away if you want to pamper yourself.

Yearly get-away
By ,
I like the St. Regis more than any place in Dana Point. It has a very beautiful view, the place is clean and you can feel the serenity you want for a vacation. Our room has it's own terrace, such a nice place for reading the morning newspaper and a better place to watch the sunset with the ocean view. The location is very accessible and walking distance to the beach,
