What's in a name?

I am a firm believer that when I book a room by a brand name hotel, whether it is Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Hyatt, etc, that you are paying for peace of mind and a product of consistent quality. Marriott continues to fail its customers in Rocky Mount. First, they granted a Fairfield Inn franchise to a roach infested, crime ridden place that did not stand up to the brand. They ended up pulling that charter a year or two back. Now, with the Courtyard, the product is not up to Marriott's service level or cleanliness. This area is a very low priced area. There is not another hotel for 100 miles that charges over $100 per night. This Marriott charges over $150/night for a product that is worth only $50 at best in this market. I have stayed here twice and each time I feel more cheated. I will not be going back.
Specifically, this hotel has several issues: dated decor/furniture, overpriced food service that does not meet a road traveler's schedule, a location that does not offer services/food choices nearby, cleanliness of a motel 6 or some other low priced off-brand, rude front desk staff that will talk on the phone for 10 minutes while you are standing there and not even acknowledge you, filthy bathrooms with the thinnest towels I have ever seen at a major hotel, and the list goes on. The best part of my visit was the checkout.
