What's in a name?
By Jim, 10/22/08
I am a firm believer that when I book a room by a brand name hotel, whether it is Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Hyatt, etc, that you are paying for peace of mind and a product of consistent quality. Marriott continues to fail its customers in Rocky Mount. First, they granted a Fairfield Inn franchise to a roach infested, crime ridden place that did not stand up to the brand. They ended up pulling that charter a year or two back. Now, with the Courtyard, the product is not up to Marriott's service level or cleanliness. This area is a very low priced area. There is not another hotel for 100 miles that charges over $100 per night. This Marriott charges over $150/night for a product that is worth only $50 at best in this market. I have stayed here twice and each time I feel more cheated. I will not be going back. Specifically, this hotel has several issues: dated decor/furniture, overpriced food service that does not meet a road traveler's schedule, a location that does not offer services/food choices nearby, cleanliness of a motel 6 or some other low priced off-brand, rude front desk staff that will talk on the phone for 10 minutes while you are standing there and not even acknowledge you, filthy bathrooms with the thinnest towels I have ever seen at a major hotel, and the list goes on. The best part of my visit was the checkout.

Oceanfront?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/06
I assumed, given the price for this hotel relative to the market, that the rooms were oceanfront. I was wrong. Now granted, no one told me that the rooms were oceanfront. I failed to ask. I assumed only because this hotel COSTS 3X WHAT OTHERS DO in the same town. Surely there MUST be a REASON? They don't even offer free breakfast for the $149/night. No, you have to pay an additional $12.99, more if you want coffee with that. If you want to pay 3X the going price for a lower quality produce, choose this hotel. (by the way, it is not hard to find... it is very close to I-95) If not, choose another hotel. They are all $50/night for decent places with FREE breakfast!

Great service!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/06
The staff was the friendliest we've encountered in years. Clean rooms, great staff - we'll definitely stay again when passing through. Wish other hotels could clone the staff - they are what made the experience such a pleasure. As to the reviews on the prices being higher than the rest of the hotels in the area - they were in line with what the others offered - with the exception of the roach motels down the road. I'd pick this anytime - I guess it is all relative - value vs. price.

Run, Run Away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/11/06
First, after driving all day, this place is hard to find. It is down a long dark alley in a commercial area. I didn't feel safe going to the hotel. Next, I am a regular Marriott customer and I go out of my way to stay at Marriotts whenever I travel but this place does not deserve to carry the Marriott name. It's more like a cheap motel than a Marriott but with Marriott prices. I felt foolish spending over $150 for a night here when every other place in Rocky Mount is right off the highway and only $50 a night. There is a limit to how much you can push even your loyal customers before they get pissed. Marriott crossed that line with me and this hotel. My advice is either settle for a cheaper brand in Rocky Mount or keep driving. Civilization is only 3 hours in either direction.

Will Stay There Every TIme
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/12/06
This hotel may seem to be overpriced, but dollar for dollar it has everything we needed and then some. The rooms were exceptionally clean, the front desk staff was beyond friendly, the morning breakfast was nicely appointed, and the general location is perfect. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling on Route 95. It is also within walking distance to the Outback Steakhouse for a nice dinner.

OVERPRICED
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/13/05
How can any motel in rocky mount charge $159 when all other places are charging $59? If you really have money to burn, donate to charity. this place is no better than a holiday inn or motel 6.

Rocky Mount, NC is not yet a go to destination but offers lots of affordable hotels. I have nothing but good comments for this hotel. Will stay there again, if a need arrises.
