Great staff, location, service and atmosphere

The staff at the hotel were quick to check me in, and get my luggage to my room. After the Intercon had "cancelled" my room (even though I had a confirmation number from them), it was nice to have hotel staff that seemed to genuinely care for my care and comfort, especially as an American woman.
Complimentary fresh fruit and plenty of water were delivered to the room daily, unlike "the other hotel" (where I'd stayed the previous year). Every three nights, I came "home" to find locally made cookies and other desserts waiting for me.
During my short stay, I was invited to attend a wedding party, held in the hotel. Unfortunately, upon arrival, I could not recognize the person that had invited me, because she was not wearing her abaya. A food service staff member was kind enough to help me locate her. (Yes, I was in awe at the transformation before my eyes; from a demure looking, abaya-covered young lady to a beautiful young woman, decked out in shimmering, sparkling red, with rubies dangling everywhere, as though attending a royal ball.) Wait, back to where the H.I. comes in -- The banquet room was beautifully decorated, and the food displays were gorgeous (as well as tasted good!)
The front desk addressed me by name each time I came down. They went out of their way to take postcards to the Post Office, and purchase stamps to affix on them prior to mailing back to the States.
The front lobby area was comfortable for sitting, waiting on colleagues. As a woman, I did not feel uncomfortable talking with strangers from other countries who were also sitting and waiting.
The breakfast buffet was fantastic. The service staff were always there to get whatever I needed, promptly and with a smile on their faces.
Internet service was reliable, although it had to be requested in person (not automated.)
The hotel is in a busy area of the city -- the computer souk; after dark, there were many people around, so I felt comfortable walking the streets alone (unlike "the other hotel"). Also, taxis were close by, and plentiful.
I have recommended this hotel to many colleagues who have gone there. In fact, just before writing this review, one called to say he was taking a one-year assignment in Riyadh, and would be staying at the Holiday Inn Olaya, based on my recommendation. I hope to stay there again, on future trips to Riyadh.
