Couldn't be happier!
My mom and I went to visit relatives in Radcliff, KY and in reviewing different hotel options in that area via the Internet, we weren't too happy with what we'd read. In looking for a place which wasn't too far from our destination, we'd read about a few hotels in Elizabethtown(commonly referred to as E-town). The places which were a lot more expensive than the Baymont Inn & Suites were either already booked, or the reviews didn't strike us as all that impressive.
We were so happy to have waited until we got to our destination and then made inquiries as to whether they (Baymont) had availability. The rates which we received (which included a military discount) were even better than using the Internet. This hotel is perhaps no more than 5-6 minutes off of I-65 once you exit at Elizabethtown, with a gas station closeby the entrance/exit ramps to the interstate.
As for the room itself, we had a small refrigerator and microwave oven in the room which consisted of two queen-sized beds. There was a continental breakfast served every morning and if you were early enough, a free newspaper (U.S. Today) was available at the front desk. They have a computer in the lobby which accesses the Internet which the guests can use which was perfectly suitable for our needs. Since there's only one you'll have to wait your turn, but on the flip side, it's available 24 hours. On our first attempt to use the pool, we found that it was unavailable, however, we were offered use of the pool at the Ramada which is right next door (less than 5 minutes walking distance)and they have both a pool and a jacuzzi which felt fabulous. All and all, when we travel to this area again, we definitely intend to stay at this hotel since overall we were quite happy with every aspect of this establishment and in my opinion, it's a good value for your money.
As for shopping and restaurants, the Baymont is close to eating places such as Ruby Tuesdays, Texas Lone Star, Wendy's, Burger King, etc. (literally in their backyard). They're also close to more familiar named hotels (Best Western, Ramada, Comfort Inn). There's a Walgreens pharmacy nearby, as is Kroger's supermarket (near Elizabethtown Tourism & Convention Bureau). Near to Kroger's is a store called Dollar Tree and they have a lot of cutesy merchandise which looks more expensive than it actually is, all for just $1.00. Driving along Ring Road, Wal-Mart's is perhaps 10-15 minutes away by car by the intersection of 31W (which is W. Dixie Ave.) and they're open 24 hours. Also up on 31W they have plenty of shopping and eatery choices such as Bed, Bath & Beyond, TJ Maxx, BestBuy, Barnes & Noble, Red Lobster, Dairy Queen, Baskin Robbins, etc). Check out a store called Kirklands (close to Old Navy) which I found to have some attractive items for the home at very reasonable prices.
Final note: Perhaps by the time that you're in this neck of the woods, the hotel being built right next door to the Baymont will be completed although I don't know which hotel chain owns it, and Kohl's department store which is also being built in E-town on 31W (about 10 minutes away from the WalMart) is due to be completed by the end of September 2007 I'm told.
