Best hotel we stayed at in our two week trip
By ,
When i made reservations i forgot that my spouse preferred a handicap accessible room (previous hip surgery). When he checked in he asked about availablilty--they were very nice and gave a couple suggestions of what they could do. We were moved to a handicap accessible room the next day. Both rooms we stayed in were big and spacious and very clean. Breakfast area in the morning was always staffed and cleaned and restocked. Would stay here again

A real nice hotel !
By ,
The Staff was very pleasant & helpful. The hotel lobby & breakfast area was clean and well kept. The pool was fun & we had lots of room to play. Hotel rooms were roomy & clean. The hotel was centrally located off the I-90 Interstate & we could easily access Hwy 16 for our day trip adventures.

Badly missed the mark.....
By ,
A conveniently located hotel to downtown and the main street that takes you to Bear Country and Mt. Rushmore. The outside looks great and it is located in a quiet residential area across from the local high school. We were there the last week of July, 2009. The staff at the front desk was pretty clueless, especially the younger people. Nobody could make a suggestion on where to eat. We had stayed at Fairfield Inns on the trip and when asked, the front desk staff always pulled a sheet out with the available restaurants nearby. The difference in knowledge and help between the front desk staffs between the two hotel chains was appalling. Upon arrival our room had a KS bed and the room was quite clean. Our daughter was offered an air mattress or roll away bed. I have never heard of hotels/motels offering air mattresses yet we were told they gave them out all the time. Our room was designed to sleep 5 and was a jaccuzzi suite. Unfortunately, the jaccuzzi was in the middle of the sleeping area of the room and if 5 were supposed to sleep in that room, one of them would have to sleep in the tub. Who would want to use the jaccuzzi if the other 4 people were in the same room with you? Our neighbors across the hall were from Australia and upon telling them about our room, they asked to see it and were in disbelief. He looked at us and said "mates, we need to go to Walmart and buy a shower curtain before anyone can go in there". As for the breakfast area it was clean and the staff helpful. But it is too small and it is badly planned out. Those getting cold cereal are in the long line with those making toast or waffles. There were often people who had to take their food back to their rooms or some who camped out in the lobby since the breakfast area is too small. While too small for breakfast, it is just the right size for happy hour which we did enjoy. As for the pool, again an interesting story. During our 5 day visit it went from ice cold on the weekend to warmer during the week. While large, the pool area was often out of towels. The pool did seem to need a good cleaning. Most puzzling to us was that this hotel was named hotel of the year for several years in the 2000's. The awards were proudly shown at the front desk. We could just never understand how a hotel that could be hotel of the year could consistently leave us wondering "how is that possible?". Some of the staff were fantastic. Hats off to the ladies in housekeeping and the man who works in the breakfast area who is an amazingly hard worker who pulls double shifts and works at night. We also met Nancy, the GM who was very knowledgable and helpful on dinner selections one late afternoon. Unfortunately, the bad experiences outweighed the good. In the end, if our travels take us to Rapid City again, we will look for another hotel

Not Our First Choice Next Time
By ,
Hotel is isolated from shopping and dinning. Our non-smoking "Presidential Suite" on the 4th floor stunk of smoke... Front desk had lost our reservation for a roll-away bed. Pool had a "floater" suspended about a foot from the surface... Ya know... the type you might see if you watched the movie "Caddie Shack"...GROSS!! All in all not the first place I would choose if returning to Rapid City.

Excellent Hotel!!!!!!!
By ,
We stayed here for one night and were blown away. Our room was excellent, extremely comfortable bed and quite roomy. The pool was nice and warm and the staff was very polite. The continental breakfast was by far the best we've seen. The price of our room was well worth the cost, which we were hesitant to book, because it was one of the more spendy hotels we had looked at for just one night of stay. Hassel free check out was great!! We will definitely stay here next time we travel out west!

Excellent Hotel - Great Value
By ,
The exterior and interior decor are beautiful and welcoming! The lobby, restrooms, halls, and rooms were very clean. Staff was very friendly, helpful, courteous. The location is excellent, quiet and quaint, yet very close and easy access to interstate highway, grocery store, shopping, and walking distance to civic center. Away from congested hotel strip area where traffic is terrible. An extra treat was the free social hour of beer, wine, soda, and popcorn on weeknight evenings. The free breakfast was very good, with hot b-fast sandwiches and b-fast burritos. yum! This was an awesome hotel for a very moderate price. I will stay every time I travel to Rapid City.

Nice and affordable!
By ,
We were very pleased to stay at this hotel. It was very comfortable, clean, and affordable. The pool was a little small but still nice. The staff was very nice. They even called our room after getting settled in to make sure everything was ok. I would definitely stay again!!!

Very nice hotel in Rapid City
By ,
Very comfortable king bed. Free breakfast was great, and food was pretty good. Amenities in room - fold out couch, fridge, microwave, coffee-maker, desk, wi-fi, cable, and plenty of room to spread out made my week long stay comfortable. Friendly staff, housekeepers alright, but really clean rooms and hotel areas, including luxurious looking pool/2 hot tub area which is free. Free beer and wine happy hour M-Th is nice and no rowdy crowds. Hotel was a great location off I-90 and near downtown, and of course right off main roads to Custer S.P. and Mt. Rushmore, etc. Mall is close by as are chain restaurants. No real-close fast food though. Quiet hotel as well. I definitely recommend it as do most other reviewers.

Higly recommend
By ,
Clean, affordable and excellent staff! The 6pm reception was a real plus. The staff saw we were enjoying their hospitality, made reservations for us at a nearby restaurant-Corn Exchange-also excellent- and had a cab waiting to pick us up in time to drop us off for our meal. Only minus was the hard to get to service road.
