well worth the money!
By ,
After researching hotels near the volcano national park, we decided to give this place a chance(even after reading a few bad reviews)--was worth it! It was very clean and quiet. The room we stayed in was nestled in the rain forest which was very cool. I already knew not to expect hot sunny weather like down in kona so the rain was ok. The sun did come out and was very nice. We had fresh waffles with fruit at their breakfast area--delicous!

Mildew heaven

If you like the odor of sweat soaked bed covers and mildew this is the place for you. Gecko was the worst. When calling at 6 pm about the almost gone bottled water and informed it could not be replaced until empty meaning we could go most of the night without drinking water. And Informed that the tap water was not supposed to be safe to drink. Opening the windows for hours did not help the odor. The middle of the room dehumidifier would fill before the night was half over and had to be emptied to restart. Multiple notes to remove shoes, wash dishes(or pay 30 dollars) and turn the bathroom fan off would not have been as bothersome if they had spent as much time washing the bed covers/blankets. Good location to Volcano Park could not be overcome by the smell of the room

I would not recommend it!
By ,
We were there in June of 2008. The room was very musty . We stayed in the bird of paradise room. There was extra towels and robes, but you could not use them because they smelled so bad. The lighting was just flouresant bulbs not good. We have stayed in B & B's before and lots of different types of hotels, dont need luxury, but this was not good. The breakfast was packaged oatmeal, cereal, coffee, and some fruit, they make it sound like a great meal, it is not. The inn keeper was not very accommodating, rude. We will go back, but we will not stay there. Good luck , Happy travels Tracy

Great Experience
By ,
We found the owners to be very pleasant, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great - they served it even though we were the only people there. They had umbrellas and flashlights to borrow - very accomodating. 24 hour access to a computer and internet or hook up your own laptop. Close to the park, quiet. Our room was exactly as it looked in the picture. Aloha Room in the main building. Small but clean and nice. Refrigerator in the room. Bags of ice available for free. A great deal.

Would not return
By ,
We had the audacity to arrive 20 minutes early to find our key not on the bulletin board and when my husband asked about our room was simply told check in is at 3PM and to leave. When we arrived later our key was there but the directions to the room were not clear and it took us some time to figure out we were in another location down the road. Our room was very small but clean. However, the second morning (our last thank goodness) the toilet started to gurgle and brown water came out of the faucets. No showers for us. YUCK!! We thought about finding another room but opted to "tough" it out. This has to be the most unfriendly, we don't want to know you're here your an annoyance, accomodation we have ever experienced. I don't like to be hovered over, but this was ridiculous. Only good thing was the location to the park.

Great spot
By ,
We stayed 3 nights at the Volcano Inn. It was nice, clean and comfortable. The location for us was great (very close to the National Park and only about 25 miles out of Hilo and a few hours from Kona).I liked that they had things available for us to use, like beach towels, jackets for trips to Mauna Kea, and flashlights in our room for trips to the park to see the lava flows. And it has 24/7 internet access.

Great place to stay
By ,
If you are looking for a place that is quiet and comfortable can't beat the Volanco inn. Rooms are clean and the breakfast is fresh and island friendly. Great location to see volcano. Friendly island hospitality at a decent price.

Good location
By ,
My husband & I enjoyed our stay at the Volcano Inn. The room was a bit small but that was all we needed at the time. Breakfast was very good with local fresh fruits. I felt the hostess was quiet but polite and did converse with us. The location close to the park is a plus. I would stay there again.

Volcano Inn
We had excellent conversation prior to our trip to the Hilo area and were looking forward to staying at the Inn. We were in the duplex cabin. You could hear every word of the people next door. The cabin is set up as a very low grade motel room. It smelled terrible--of insect spray and mold. We could barely sleep due to the stifling smell. The next morning there was no hot water as our neighbors had used it all. We felt like we were in a flop house. We told the Volcano Inn about our experience and he was quite indifferent, acting surprised--no offer to refund money or suggestions for improvement. We left and found on short notice an excellent house for rent in the area for $135/night. What a difference--flowers, deck, huge rooms! Also, we learned that there is a fair amount of local conversation about the Inn, and that it is not positive.

Nice surroundings, cold reception
By ,
Guests at this B&B are treated as annoyances. The room we had was clean and comfortable and the location to Volcano National Park was very good. However we cringed whenever we had to go to breakfast because the owner was so rude. One guest commented that the milk was sour, and the reply was simply a shake of the head and rolled eyes from the hostess! We thought she had taken a dislike to us for some reason, but it was clear that everyone was treated in the same way. Don't confuse this place with The Inn at Volcano, apparently they know how to treat their guests.
