My wife and I just came back from Santa Marta where we stayed at the Zuana beach resort. We will never go back. We have a suspicion that the resort recycles the food, and that the water is contaminated. When we first arrived we were so pleased because we really thought this was going to be great. The first night was very relaxing and the staff checked us in with very good service. Then the next day it all started going down hill. My wife and I developed a strange smell coming from our insides, it smelled as if we were rotting. We know that it was the food/drink from the hotel because we left Santa Marta and continued to San Andres and once we left we felt much better. We had nausea and vomiting during our stay at the resort. We also discovered during one of the nights that the sheets had mold on them. The hotel during the day is very good. They have activities especially for kids, they do have a nice set up. However once night falls, you might as well take a sleeping pill because there is nothing to do. You end up seeing the same people during breakfast, lunch , and dinner, and you feel as if you are stuck in some type of compound. I understand it is not the hotels responsibility to entertain me however I just want to give an honest review of my stay. The beach behind the resort is very nice, however as in most of the coastal cities in Colombia, the beach vendors harass you to the point of exhaustion. I suggest you stay on the hotel grounds where security does not allow them to bother the guests. I hope this review helps.
I visited the Zuana Beach Resort with my Colombian girlfriend on an Interval International time share exchange and paid additional for a Jr. Suite upgrade. At only $45US a night, the extra space and convenience of the kitchen were well worth it, since we saved as much on restaurant expenses and could be much more casual.
The resort was beautiful, the facilities and grounds impeccably maintained, and the staff members were all helpful and friendly. My Spanish is limited, but I did not have any problems communicating with the front desk staff who spoke limited English.
My girlfriend and I participated in the Park Tayrona and Chiva (Party Bus) tours and found the prices reasonable; the tour operators were very friendly and provided a good value. We had intnetions to use the gym and other game room facilities, but it was too easy to just chill by the pool.
August is not a busy season there and the pools, beach area and restaurants were not crowded, so we had a very relaxing time. There were mostly familes there when we visited and the children and parents seemed to really enjoy themselves as well. I would highly recommend a visit.
This place it's just wonderful. The staff are very well mannered and the security of the place its admirable. The pools were sparkling clean everyday, and the beds by the beach were absolutely marvelous.
At the hotel you can find a local travel agency, which will provide you with all the local tours you can possibly find at a very affordable cost.
If you are thinking about going to Santa Marta, go ahead and stay at this resort, you won't regretted.
I liked the beauty and cleanliness of the place, and the friendly and helpful staff.
The wait staff was outstanding. I would love to return to Zuana next year.
I recommend it highly.
