Just back from a trip to Geneva. Checked into the Ibis for four nights but couldn't stand it and ended checking out after only two.
To be honest the hotel isnt that bad, ive stayed at worse, but ive also stayed at a lot better for a similar price. Reception is okay standard sort of big hotel chain thing. The rooms are a big let down though. We were on the fourth floor, tiny rooms for two people with one of the smallest bathrooms ive seen with only a shower and everything on top of themselves. The hotel seems to have been updated in recent times but on a budget with the original old doors, light fittings radiators etc.. so the effect is a outdated hotel in some areas, especially the rooms
The biggest problem with the hotel though is the location. We honestly didnt feel safe in this area of Geneva with graffti everywhere and beggers on the streets. I would say though most of Geneva was run down though! The local resturants had flies around eating areas and a common sight were birds eating from resturant tables, tho the locals didnt seem to mind.
If you really must stay in Geneva then I guess I would say the hotel is okay for the money, especially when you consider what some of the other hotels cost. Dont expect something holiday inn express standard though it isn’t more like a cheap B&B. And don’t book for several days, we turned up and just wanted to be out, mainly due to the location and scum round about though and not the hotel itself. I would book through drivealive.com and you get breakfast free. Personally though I would never go back to Geneva and was thankful that we were able to get an earlier flight out.
This was the first and so far the only IBIS hotel I've stayed in. I was impressed with the cleanliness and the excellent power shower! However the room was very poky, and I was glad it was just me and my 4 year old son in there.
The immediate location is down at heel, although close to everything, some characters hanging around nearby made me feel unsafe after dark.
