Comfort Inn and Suites Lafayette, Lafayette

From check in to check out, excellent service. Hotel is new, and staff went all out to make sure customers wanted to return. Beds were among the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Everything (WiFi, TV, fridge, AC, etc) worked just the way it was supposed to. Virtually no road noise. Access was a bit awkward, as you had to enter through a Chili's parking lot, but the stay made up for any inconvenience. The breakfast buffet was the best I have seen (for free). Would go back in a flash!

Where to begin? The neighborhood children were climbing over the wall and playing in the parking area when we arrived. Very dangerous!! There were no automatic opening doors or an elevator. I thought all new hotels had to comply with the ADA standards for the handicapped. Although I'm not handicapped, it's not easy lugging several bags up two flights of stairs and certainly none of the staff offered to help. We had to change rooms due to the smell in the first room we were given. There was a heavy smell of mold and mildew. I had begun to call other hotels in the area when the front desk suggested changing rooms. The second room wasn't much better but the thought of getting all our luggage back down at that late hour was just too daunting. We stayed. The linen and towels were clean although the shower curtain was soured. Also, the vent in the bathroom didn't work and the shower bar sagged making it difficult to keep the shower curtain closed and water off the floor. In the ad they put in the travel guide we got from the tourist bureau, the hotel was listed as a new property. That was one of the main reasons we made reservations there. When we asked the manager how long they had been open, she said, "Seven years." To me--that's not a new property and it had certainly not been kept up. When we discovered that the TV remote needed new batteries, we called downstairs. They said they had some but we would have to come down and get them ourselves. I wondered why someone couldn't have run them up to us but later figured out that they were all too busy staying on the computer set aside for guest usage in the lobby. It seemed every time we passed through the lobby one of the employees was on it. We were there two night before we got a chance to check our email. We did not research this hotel before we made reservations. That is not a mistake we will make again. I do not recommend this hotel.

We liked the large rooms, two queen beds and a sofa. It also had a swimming pool, which we didn't use, and a nice breakfast.
