Not as Advertised
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/11/10
The lodge could be a nice place to stay however, new management it seriously needed. We had our first concern when we called to find out where the hotel was located and the front desk person advised us that she did not know, that she did not speak english well and that she was the only one working in the entire facility. Next, the pictures posted are really old, in the four rooms we had for our family the furniture and the carpet were filthy with stains, some of the furniture including one of the burners on a stovetop were broken and the thermostat would not regulate so we it went front hot to cold constantly, making it difficult to sleep. Do not expect any type of service here, this is basically a self service place to stay. There was no one to help with the luggage, many times at the front desk we had to wait because we could hear the person working playing video games until we were loud enough to make our presence known and there was never more than one person at the front desk at any time during our week long stay. While we were there, the hotel had about 15 cars in the parking lot and three of those were ours. So while the hotel was basically empty they thought it would be a good idea to put a group of college age snowboarders next to the families, they allowed them to run up and down the halls drinking and playing musical instruments until 11:00 p.m. When we called the front desk, they said we could move which wasn't option due to sleeping children. They refused to say anything to that group because they said this was a resort town and noise should be expected. Luckily when we spoke to the group, they offered to request to be moved the next day. The only positive thing about this hotel is the buffet breakfast, which was missing items on the last 3 days of our stay, the staff working the buffet told us the hotel didn't order enough food. If we had not prepaid, we would have left. Do yourself a favor, don't stay here unless there is no where else available or if you need a place that takes pets.

Great place at a great price.
By David, 12/24/09
We went to Ruidoso and stayed at The Lodge for three nights. We paid about $100 a night and that includes a pet fee and had no problems at all. The staff was freindly, rooms clean, and the breakfast was great. There was not a lot of seating for breakfast but we managed. The Lodge is located in pretty good place between "downtown" for shopping and Ski Appache so we had an easy time getting around for food and fun. I would stay here again no question. Are there nicer places? Maybe but for the price i doubt you can find one.

Not clean
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/4/09
The setting is great BUT the rooms are not very clean, traces of the previous guests were obvious-- I had to buy cleaning supplies myself, everything else in town was booked or I would have checked out. Don't think i would stay there again

worst place to stay in the state
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/23/08
False advertising..no free passes to the lifts No hot water on a mountain??? No help with baggage, I blew my knee on the slopes. Booked king suite, was called the day of ..not available, checked the internet that night, the listing was still available. Desk Clerk was cussing. I contacted BBB. Resort promised refund and never delivered Horrible business ethics.

Room cleaning issues need addressing if we're ever to go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/8/08
The hotel it self is located in a very nice part of town. The surroundings are very calm and family oriented. You feel really safe. The cooks were extremely pleasant as was the bar tender and those at the pro shop. However, the maid service was extremely poor and totally not acceptable! I rented a two bed room suite which consisted of three beds. At times only 1 bed was made up. The floors were never swept or vaccumn nor were they mop. Counters were left dirty and bath tub and vanity areas in the bath room were never once cleaned. Never have I stayed in a hotel with such unacceptable house cleaning. When I called the front desk I was told the maids had gone home, so nothing could be done. We paid a considerable amount of money for this suite, and received awful maid service. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family. As a business owner I would advise those in charge to address these issues immediately. It's a real shame to have a nice hotel and not be able to deliver the full five star service because of house keeping.

didn't even get to stay....
By CourtneyB, 6/27/08
I think this place has major staff issues. I booked online. I received an email saying that had I not gotten a confirmation number in 24 hours to email. I emailed after 24 hours asking about confirmation. I went ahead and called the hotel only to be told by the person who answered it I would have to call back because she was busy. When I called back she couldn't find my name in the system. She said that the girl who did the booking of online reservations would receive a fax to do it but that she was on vacation. I asked well what if the rooms are sold out before she books mine. The girl told me "we have plenty of rooms." I was told the girl I needed to talk to would be back the next day. I called back to be told that my reservation was not made and that they were booked out of the room we wanted. The manager called me back and told me that my reservation had been made but cancelled (and mysteriously not by them). He offered a downgrade. I was not interested at this point. We will be finding another hotel hopefully since now we are one week out from the 4th of July. I can only imagine how the service is once you get there....perhaps a blessing in disguise.

Best place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/17/06
Great place to stay...from the fireplace in our one bedroom suite to the great whirlpool tub to the full home cooked and I do mean home cooked breakfast, this place was great. Very quiet and peaceful, and the golf course setting was great. Would stay there every time...dont forget to eat at Texas Grill, and Sartinis

Overall good experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/27/05
We have stayed at the Hawthorn several times and have had a couple of bad experiences, ie; gave us a key to a room already occupied, next visit gave someone else a key to our room, but the Hawthorn fixed the problem and gave us a reduced rate for one night. We enjoy the breakfast, location and the overall atmosphere. We always check with the Hawthorn for availability when we visit Ruidoso.

Exquisite
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/14/04
The hotel staff was warm and friendly. They were helpful beyond their job requirements. The room was excellent. The whirlpool bath was very refreshing. I loved the golf course. It was challenging and well maintained. I very much enjoyed the golf staff. They were more than helpful and accomendating for my playing pleasure. The off season price for the golf package is a steal. I will return many times after this my first visit.

Unhappy guest
By Donald, 5/5/04
The staff was rude. The hotel was overbooked with no apology, the room I reserved was not available and they bumped me down rather than up AT THE SAME PRICE!! The pool was filthy and unswimmable I would never stay there again.
