Julian during apple fest is a great place to be. They have an Acting group that put on a benefit play for the High School, Senior class I believe, but it si ALWAYS hilarious. Over acted over the top but always entertaining. My wife and I will stop there on our way from Chicago to San Diego to Palm Springs. We've decided to stay over night the past six years, and while Orcahrd Hill is a little pricey, it is well worth the cost.
The towns residents are very friendly and out going towards all us tourists, but after a few hours sitting around Town we feel like we belong. Heck even the women who does the horse carridge rides through town pointed us out, ".......there's Debbie & Art from Palatine Il., sitting over there...." and all proceed to wave at us.
The women who organizes and directs the Julian Players in the " Melodrama and Olio' wanted to know if we could be her professional audience. The Town Hall is full for these plays, how ever no one laughed louder or more than my wife and I. I wish i could remember her name BUT ALL the Julian "Floozies" are funny and just totally enjoyable.
Orchard Hill and Julian are just a great place to visit, but do at least two days.
My husband surprised me on Valentines day with a room here. It was super cozy. I Loved that it was snowing and we could walk to a restaurant for dinner! The only bummer was that I was looking forward to a nice hot bath in their huge tub. I'm guessing it's because it's well water and im sure the pipes were freezing the water only stayed hot long enough to barely fill the tub up ( Ended up taking a dissapointing luke warm bath). I know thats not a big deal for a lot of people but it kinda killed it for me. I did attempt a hot bath some hours later and still no luck :(
Reading the previous reviews, all of them were accurate. Great, attentive staff, excellent service, wonderful food, fatastic hospitality, great location on a hill, etc., etc. We stayed in one of the lodge rooms on the second floor (there is a picture of the room in the first review - blue/white wall paper, white shutters, yellow chairs). The bed was comfortable and the room decor was comforting. There were fresh oatmeal cookies in a jar on the dresser waiting for us. We rode our motorcycles up to Julian and once we stepped into the lodge, we were eased into "relax" mode immediately. Ahhhh.....
Room - comfortable
Location - convenient
Food - excellent
I would recommend this B&B and I hope to stay again.
Everything @ this high end retreat is superlative. Meals were excellent, and the rooms, off the scale. We certainly didn't expect such quality in this off the beaten path location. It's not a bargain, but worth every penny.
We(I)plan on being there Valentine's Day. My wife will be pleasantly surprized.
The whole place was very romantic and comfortable. They had trails on a hillside to explore which include a mine trail. There was lots to do and the people were very friendly. Also it was walking distance from Julian's mainstreet which allowed us to walk from our rooms to the antique shops. I highly recommend to stay here.
As I was trying to call around Julian and make last minute reservations for a Sunday evening since I heard there was possible snow coming, I spoke with Sharon who answered the 800 number. After asking her is there was snow in Julian, she rudely asnwered to ask the weather man and hung up. I called back to let her know that my next question was to inquire about reservations! Wow. Not staying there.
The cottage we stayed in was beautiful, private and had everything we needed. The breakfast was great. The view from the restaurant was breathtaking. The town is just plain quaint and adorable. Nice restaurants and gift shops in town.
This bed and breakfast is not like most B&Bs. It's really top rate down to every last detail. The down comforters, the wonderful robes, the decor ... everything about this place is pure luxury. It's more like a fine hotel than a bnb. The whole place is beautifully furnished and the food is wonderful. The staff treats us like VIPs, everytime we stay.
It's not cheap, but if you want a really exceptional place to stay for a special occassion, it's worth every cent. Without a doubt, it's the nicest place to stay in Julian.
