Barcelo Palma Real, San Jose

Barcelo was a very nice hotel with modern features. The breakfast was huge!! new selections daily. Tons of fruit, hot dishes and a chef making fresh eggs to order. The concierge was awesome. He set us up with a driver to take us to the Jaco' beach (about $150) and was very helpful with directions. There is a Subway restaurant just down the street near the park. Also a Mcdonalds about 1 mile walking distance. The rooms are very clean, nicely decorated. There is a casino next door. There isn't a pool at the Barcelo but you can use the pool at the hotel next door. It's a little cool but very nice. We swam in it a few times. Many taxi's park in front of the Barcelo so you always have that option to get a ride. If you reserve a at least 48 hrs in advance at the front desk, you can get a free shuttle to the airport. that was great! saved us money!! overall, nice hotel, clean, great breakfast and great staff.

This hotel is well located and personnel is very kind, but internet connection fails very frequently and the quality of the food is poor. They provide good information about tours and other attractions.

The Palma Real is an excellent hotel. Cleanliness is first rate at this establishment. The staff is customer service oriented. I will return to this hotel. I would also recommend this place to my parents and people with families. One member of the staff helps to book sight seeing tours and rental cars.

Nothing worse than arriving late in hopes of much needed rest only to find your room does not exist for reasons that sound suspicious. Having arrived at 11pm with a group of 6 people it was horrible to find 'both' rooms not available due to 'flooding'. Worse they waited (without helping) for us to struggle up to the desk with all our luggage to announce sorry we booked another hotel (much worse quality...tiny tiny rooms), as if they did enough. (Did they give our rooms to a higher bidder? I'll wonder, what are the chances two rooms flooded out?) Then didn't even attempt to help carry our luggage back to the van (that thank God didn't leave already)so we could attempt to find the mystery hotel they booked us in without telling us the cost difference or giving us a break for 'taking' our prepaided rooms for others! Now this was the Barcelo Palma Real, the Barcelo Palico was very satisfactory...a positive experience. Just stay away from the Palma Real and their unhelpful staff.

Definately a very nice hotel. Ranks at or above a United States four star hotel. Their showers alone are worth the price. Staff is friendly and the hotel is fairly close to the airport and in a good nieborhood.
