A great place to stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/13/11
We had never been to Grafton and so, of course, had never been to the Ruebel. We wanted to spend some time in the area and chose this hotel based on the reviews of others. The experience was more than we could have hoped for. This hotel was built in 1884 and the new owners have done their best to preserve it's history and to present everyone with a unique but comfortable experience. Every room is decorated differently. It has the feel of a bed and breakfast only it has more - the restaurant and bar and large deck overlooking the Illinois River. The bar is from the 1904 World's Fair. The owner has pictures of former patrons of the hotel from a former era on the wall. The owner of another business in town told us to ask about the "ghosts" at the hotel, so we did and were told interesting stories by several employees. In our room at night, my husband and I discussed how many people may have stayed in our room and wondered "if these walls could only talk"...... We highly recommend this hotel. We had a "real vacation" - just absorbing the history, the atmosphere, and the beautiful Fall scenery. We even saw an eagle and also bought a souvenir eagle in their gift shop.

Very enjoyable visit
By WES, 2/22/09
We wanted a get away weekend and to view the eagles of Grafton. We were prepared to pay the website price but but at booking the reservation we were very pleased at a reduced price for off season. We were told the rooms have just been refurbished. The bed sleep great and everything was so neat and tidy, just altogether very charming. The food and service was great. Our only suggestion (which is so minor) may be to set the breakfast a little earlier, 9:00 am is a bit late for early risers. With that said we are already looking forward to another stay next year.

Great Place for a getaway weekend
By Getaway Plan, 11/3/08
I was very pleasantly surprised with my recent stay at this hotel. The new manager is extremely accommodating and customer service oriented. It is obvious that the manager and his family are striving to make this the best it can be. The hotel is very clean and the food is good. The location is great. I would recommed this place to anyone wanting to escape from the big city.

won't be back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/13/06
My wife and I went on a trip to Grafton and thought it would be nice to stay in an older hotel. It was awful. This hotel was not worth what we paid, the view was not very good either, the continental breakfast was not what was expected, it was a card table with bags of bagels on it. There was no air conditioning on, we asked several times and they still didn't turn it on. My thoughts are that the bar is more important to them than the hotel. We asked if we could see the new Banquet room, and they said Why? It is a real shame. My business will be directed else where next time, and I do plan on returning. This time to a friendlier place of business that is budgeted better.
