A great place to stay!

We had never been to Grafton and so, of course, had never been to the Ruebel. We wanted to spend some time in the area and chose this hotel based on the reviews of others. The experience was more than we could have hoped for. This hotel was built in 1884 and the new owners have done their best to preserve it's history and to present everyone with a unique but comfortable experience. Every room is decorated differently. It has the feel of a bed and breakfast only it has more - the restaurant and bar and large deck overlooking the Illinois River. The bar is from the 1904 World's Fair. The owner has pictures of former patrons of the hotel from a former era on the wall. The owner of another business in town told us to ask about the "ghosts" at the hotel, so we did and were told interesting stories by several employees. In our room at night, my husband and I discussed how many people may have stayed in our room and wondered "if these walls could only talk"...... We highly recommend this hotel. We had a "real vacation" - just absorbing the history, the atmosphere, and the beautiful Fall scenery. We even saw an eagle and also bought a souvenir eagle in their gift shop.
