Don't stay here!

I would find somewhere else to stay in the Kansas City area. I travel frequently as part of my job, and have stayed at hundreds of hotels. Upon check in, this location was pretty gross. The lobby was dirty, and the air smelled like acrid smoke. The staff was neither friendly or rude, but they did check me into a smoking room when I specifically requested non smoking. I then had to go back down and ask a second time for non smoking. The room was "okay." It could have been more clean, and I saw a bug in the bathroom, but that's not such a big deal. The bigger problem is the the housekeeping staff went through my belongings in my absence and stole from me. Not only that, they stole some of my personal belongings, and didn't even clean the room!! When I called down to the front desk and requested someone come to my room so I could make a report, the woman who came was not a manager. She treated me like I was making it up, and was very unsympathetic to the fact that I felt totally violated, and was out about $100 to replace the stolen ietms. She indicated that the girl who cleaned my room was in highschool, and she wouldn't "accuse her" of anything. So, basically, she told me I have no chance of getting my stuff back.
When I went to check out, I asked for a refund. She indicated she would credit me $15. I told her that wouldn't even cover the cost to replace what was taken. Then she looked at me and said "you can't even proove anything was taken....that's all I can do." I have taken my complaint to the CEO of Choice Hotels and so far, no one has been willing to address it. I am disputing the charges on my credit card, but I wanted to warn people, if you like your possessions, stay somewhere else!!
