Hampton Inn Las Vegas Tropicana, Las Vegas

It's like not being in Vegas with Vegas Right out side the door. Needs better breakfast for the price. Hawthorne gives a full buffet. This could too. But still a get stay.

You just can't go wrong with a Hampton Inn. The prices are always reasonable (dont' forget the AAA discount), and you get free high speed internet and a hot breakfast every morning. The shuttle is a nice way to get to the strip or airport---it's free. But you're on your own getting back to the hotel as they will not come and get you. But there are taxis all over the place in Vegas, so it's no big deal. You can walk to the Tropicana, Monte Carlo, New York New York, etc, withing 10 mintues or so. You just walk down Tropicana and go over the highway (I-15) and you're there. Lots of people do this walk and there is tons of room for pedestrians. Other guests from various hotels/motels in this area (west of I-15) also use the same route to walk to the casino, so it's no problem. Also be advised: they began renovating this hotel at the end of July, 2006. When I was there, they had just closed the front entrance/lobby area and it was moved to a VERY small room on the right side of the hotel (right side as you're looking at it from the front). They were beginning on the top 2 floors and would then work their way down. This hotel is showing it's age so a rennovation will be welcome. Although it's clean, certain areas (such as the bathrooms) are definitely showing their age.

Surprisingly pleasant stay close enough to the Strip and all it has to offer, yet far enough away to accomodate any desire for quiet/solitude. Free(included in your fees I'm sure)shuttle from the airport...very helpful. Adequate free continental breakfast from 6 to 10 am (eggs, meat, fruit, pastries, cereals, juice, milk, coffee, etc.). Very basic fitness room(2 treadmills, 1 stairmaster, 1 exercise bike, 1 pulley weight setup). More family/business traveller oriented, so very little chance of screaming drunks to contend with. My girlfriend and I stayed here while she was attending a convention at another hotel. Served well for our purposes...I lounged while she worked. Cabs arrive pretty quickly. Usually no more than $10 to get from the Strip. Easy enough of a walk if you can handle it(15 minutes). Definitely not the most glamorous of hotels, but we knew that and were more than satisfied. Would repeat. I suppose our only complaint would be the ever present cigarette odor that permeates all of Las Vegas. Do they pump cigarette smoke out through the sewer grates there too? EVERYWHERE!!

Nice property with very friendly and helpful staff. They have multiple 24 hour shuttle vans to the strip (and airport) which offer the most accommodating shuttle service I have ever experienced.
