Great hotel but bad location
This is a wonderful hotel. But travelers should note that it is in Pudong, across the river from the most interesting parts of Shanghai, such as Nan Jing Road, Huai Hai Road, the Bund, the French Quarter, museums, theaters, etc. True, you can get across the river by a taxi ride through the tunnel, but with increasing traffic times and difficulties of communicating with taxi drivers who speak only Chinese, this might not be what you want.
So, while the views from a Bund-view room are spectacular, the Bund itself, adjoining Nan Jing Road, and most of Shanghai are definitely not within walking distance. If you want a hotel where you can step outside and walk to interesting sights, shopping, and dining you'd be better off choosing the Portman Ritz-Carlton.
