terrible. Not a real waterfront
I booked this hotel thinking it was a "waterfront" property. If your idea of waterfront is a mud puddle dock area that is blocked in with cement, weeds and moss you will be happy. There is no way to enjoy the "water" unless you are in the pool. It has maybe six boats and absolutely no view of any "lake". The room felt like I was crashing at a friends basement. Musty. Dank. We felt unsafe. Our toilet seat would not stay up, which made for an interesting experience trying to use the bathroom. It was literally built under a counter top so that you had to hold the lid up the whole time. It was terribly dirty. Even though we had several people, we asked to move to a king room just to get off the ground floor because we did not like the giant sliding glass door. There was a semi truck parked out back with lots of odds and inns from construction projects. The room was dingy. I was scared to even get into the covers. We were awarded the "reduced" rate of 100 bucks a night for this, and were asked to pay for a cot. I would rather have slept in the car. This property is NOT what they advertise it to be. I went on priceline to try to get a Clearwater waterfront hotel. I got stuck with this thing on a highway surrounded by aging urban sprawl, and about a 30 minute drive from any tourist stuff. WATCH out for cops too. We left with an undeserved 240 dollar ticket because the sharks around there prey on out of staters.
I kept wondering why Best Western would allow their name on such a place. Did they not inspect the property? I thought that was a good brand? IF it weren't for the mud puddle lake, this place would be a sleazy truck stop style dive at best. It just feels like a depressing mom and pop place you would see in the movies. horror movies. They do offer breakfast if you are willing to wait a long time as it is served in the restaurant. Clearly the restaurant staff does not care about serving the hotel guests--they seated us in a hidden dark corner instead of letting us eat outside, they neglected the table, they only have three options, and seemed annoyed that we were there. I think they hope that most people will just leave and not take them up on the breakfast. When it came, it was a long the lines of Denny's food. Very unusual for a continental breakfast.
I get the impression that someone bought this place with hopes of fixing it up. They started fixing it themselves and found it to be too hard and they ran out of money. They bathroom in the lobby is great. But that's where the progess stopped. You can tell a do it yourselfer tried to paint the place. It's falling apart. The problem is that they are trying to compete with luxury hotels and be a Hilton when they are, at best, an old Motel 6. They obviously have money problems, and I don't want to hurt them. But, they are trying to be something they are not and they misrepresent themselves. They should cater to the economy minded passers by. This motel should have a flashing light out front and a banner that says 39 dollars per night. I recommend that they offer a 2 night discount and give the rooms for about 50 bucks for two nights. That way, they would fill the place up. It is a place to stay, the rooms do have a balcony, and there is some water, a pool, an iffy restaurant and a weight room. But they should cut the breakfast song and dance, stop trying to be a premium property, stop trying to charge over a hundred bucks a night for a truck stop style place, and maybe they would get some business. This is just not a good location--one of the worst I have ever stayed in. I was so embarrassed that I had to drag my family there for a night. Looking back, I should have just forfeited the hundred bucks to priceline and booked another place.
