Shiny Facade over a bunch of problems
We arrived on a Thursday, and the staff was friendly. Aside from the maintenance "boys" following us around and leering at my teenage daughter, that day was actually very nice and uneventful. We awoke Friday morning, and enjoyed the lovely complementary breakfast, which was basically a buffet of southern breakfast foods with all the trimmings! As I dried my hair after my shower, I noticed there was a patch of something that was white, and gooey, sliding down the wall behind the TV and behind the dresser. When I say behind, it's not like it was hidden. It looked like somethign the consistancy of hair conditioner, yet organic. I had no desire to touch the substance or try to identify it. I fought back the vomit, and notified the front desk. We packed up our day packs and headed to MSU for the day.
Upon returning, my daughter wanted to listen to her Ipod while working out. We'd left them in the room to charge.
Her 8 gig Ipod was missing. So was my 4 gig Ipod, and a PALM Tungstsen E2, and all the chargers for them. It isnt' the loss of cute toys that is upsetting. All 3 items were gifts, they were engraved, and they were special. None contained anything special, some show tunes, some free podcasts....Heck, the Palm wasn't even a phone, just an electronic calendar.
I reported this to the staff immediately. While at the desk, I heard tales of other guests reporting catching strangers in their beds watching Pay per view movies as they returned for the evening. An entire wing of rooms was not serviced by the housekeeping staff. I was asked not to contact the police until Management had run an investigation. I was also "strongly encouraged" by other staff members to leave the police out of it, as they wouldn't do anything anyway.
Worse yet, the hotel refused to report any of these things to the police. it seems that it is POLICY to prop open the doors of 20-30 hotel rooms on each floor during "cleaning time" and leave them open and unattended for a few hours at a time, where anyone can walk in and take what they please.
While a few members of the staff, especially a young man named Chris, were very sympathetic and caring, I have yet to hear from the manager, or the housekeeping supervisor. No patron of this hotel should have to pack all their personal belongings with them when leaving the room to be cleaned. I don't rent a hotel room so I can watch the staff.
We had to stay in the hotel through Sunday as our flight home was then, and there wasn't an empty room within 200 miles. We felt unsafe, and scared to be in our room for the rest of the stay, after hearing that one person caught a man in her bed with a master key to all rooms.
I will NEVER stay in any hotel owned by this corporation again. I will make sure my friends and family know how poorly this hotel is managed.
