Rodeway Inn Salem, Salem

The only hotel with rooms during the State Fair... We were desperate and so accepted a smoking room. We traveled on the cheap in Europe and know what to expect. FILTH was not on the list of expectations! Something black and sticky on the carpet between the beds, the A/C unit and fan in the bathroom were clogged with HUGE black lint-like clumps. The a/c unit and filter were dirty with other things as well, including cheerios! We opened windows, burned candles, sprayed air purifier and the smoke smell was still incredibly strong. Manager was rude and refused to refund $ or have problem areas cleaned. Their excuse was that it was smoking room, so what did we expect!? Housekeeper indicated they had less than 15 min per room. Basic cleaning was fine, it was the maintenance and periodic cleaning needs that were LONG OVERDUE! AVOID THIS PLACE!

I have stayed at this hotel several times and will stay whenever I am in the area. The beds are the most comfortable I have ever experienced in a hotel. The staff is very friendly and willing to accomodate. On one stay there was a fridge and microwave in the room so now I request them every time and there's never been an extra charge. There are hotels closer to downtown but comparable ones are more $. Same money not as nice. A great place to stay. Also, the pool is awesome!

GROSS GROSS GROSS! Back when this motel was the Sleep Inn this place was nice. Now, it is a filth dump ran by people who can't even speak english. We asked for clean sheets and a new bedspread since ours were so dirty and we had to change our own beds. I had to clean the floor in the bathroom. The complimentary breakfast consisted of cold cereal and toast and they had one butter tub that we all got to share. (Lucky us!) The little girl that kept dipping her knife in the butter and licking it and then redipping sure made us want to use that! ACK! Also, there was garbage and dead rats (honestly - I have pictures) in the parking lot. The staff was unfriendly and quite frankly rude. I was there to be with a friend who had his first cancer treatment and he was not feeling well on our check out day so I asked if we could possibly check out a little late. They said they would not extend our time and if we were not out we would be charged for another day. Awful--- horrendous---- please take my advice and stay somewhere else as this place is the worst!
