Really, not that bad.
The Mrs. booked the hotel because of cost. Sometimes you have to wonder about that. But as we drove into Rapid City, we understood where our expectations should belong. The hotel, understood as being within that city, is quite adequate.
The rooms are so-so; typical hotel fare. I was impressed with the lobby, though. Nice and open, great foliage, and belying decor. Though because of the pool, the whole place smelled like a chlorine factory. But, such things are expected.
When we got to our room, the A/C did not work (as per another review), but they just switched us to another room. It was also an upgrade, so that was nice.
Oh, and I'm sure the Mrs. would like to inform everyone that in both rooms there were no bed bugs. Seems to be a point with her. So, kudos on that.
The free breakfast was nice, though there was no bacon. Enh, whatcha gonna do? All the staff were friendly (actually, all the people around this area were genuinely nice). Oh, and for some reason they have this machine that makes the best coffee I've had in the mid-west. Curious.
The location is moderately central, but that is more an artifact of the city's location than the hotel. It all depends on what you are there to see, really. For us, it worked out. We were there to see Mt. Rushmore, Devil's Tower, and The Badlands. If you're just taking in one of those, there are closer accomodations.
Some of the other reviews seemed a bit harsh, but Americans tend to be a whiny bunch. When on vation, roll with stuff. We didn't go on vaction to see the hotel, we went on vaction to see some national monuments. As for the wedding couple, well, it's Rapid City. What were you expecting?
All in all, your mileage may vary, but take a drive around Rapid City and you'll be glad you're staying here. Again, the hotel is just a place to sleep, not spend the vaction.
