Could do better
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/08
I complained about the old TV with only one station and permanent child lock and no one attended to it. Not attended to in the restaurant until I asked. Some (unintended) rudeness in the bar -- person responsible switched stations as he pleased. Not enough light in the room. On the positive side, air conditioning (although old) worked well. Since I was on business, proximity was great.

Excellent Bar
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/11/08
I have stayed at St George on 4 occassions over the past 2years and have had an enjoyable stay each time, maybe some of the other reviewers are wanting a resort hotel.....this is not a resort hotel but a friendly place to relax in the Nations capital. So go to the bar get known by the staff enjoy a game of darts and relax for goodness sake

AVOID THIS PLACE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/5/07
I was there for 1 night and I could not wait to get out. The air con did not work in the room with 35 degrees outside and humid too. The receptionist had no idea of customer care and relations. The breakfast was so bad I did not eat any and checked out immediately. Reccomend Le Suffren instead.

Awful
By Zoe, 3/4/07
This is a dingy, terrible place. The carpets were so dirty our shoes stuck to them. The air conditioning in our room blew out hot air! We couldn't stay here - we left after an hour and got our money back from the travel agent.

Horrible Restaurant but good location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/30/06
The only thing St. George Hotel in Port Louis has going for it is its location. The restaurant is an embarassment to the great restaurants tradition of Mauritius (which I think is the most beautiful country in the world). By the time breakfast gets served it's time for lunch and then for dinner you won't get anything you want because the menu items simply will have run out except for a few scraps or leftovers. When the food runs out there's no where else to go but the Canton Restaurant several blocks away (wonderful Chinese place by the way). Reminds me of those aging Soviet hotels of the 1970's. Amazingly their uniformed doorman followed us out the door one time and snooped inside the trunk of our car parked across the street and kept eyeing the women inside. I had to threaten the guy before he would leave us alone. There is absolutely no privacy at this place. If you stay there you'll likely meet fascinating travellers to socialize with. Rooms have nice view of a very cute French Embassy across the street and historic Catholic Church is very close.

The hotel needs to learn what biznessmen do NOT want
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/26/04
For a hotel that claims to cater for businessmen, it should note the following: 1)It should Make available removable door signages of "DON'T DISTURB","PLEASE DO MY ROOM",etc, so that the guest can have control on what he/she wants done and when. 2)The restaurant menu is too limited and very boring.I've stayed there on 3 occasions, and each time, the menu's variety went downhill.
