Would not step foot in this place again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/2/11
My boyfriend stayed in this motel for a month, and after a week we noticed he had itchy spots on his arms, legs and back. When the cleaning lady came he asked to have a look under the mattress, where he found about a dozen bugs. After talking to the owner about it, he did not receive any form of compensation, and was also called rude names and essentially kicked out. This place is a hellhole and I would not recommend it to anyone.

great value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/14/10
This was my first stay at the Express Lodge. If you are looking for a basic place to lay your head down for the night, this is the place. It was very conviently located, a short walk to basics, such as the grocery store, and a short drive to entertainment and shopping. The room was very clean, I loved that there was no carpet in the rooms. The bathroom was spotless, and the beds were very comfortable. The only small complaint about the beds was that the pillows were horrible. The desk clerk was very friendly and gave us a discount because it was our first time there. He was very helpful, providing us with information and answering all our questions. The price was very reasonable. The motel is very basic. If you are looking for luxury this is not the place. If you are looking for a clean room to spend a few nights at a decent price, this is the place.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/23/08
My husband I stayed here a couple of years ago and were not pleased with the service and the nickle and dime guy at the front desk we found it so unprofessional and not very clean, but we traveled back again to nova scotia and decided to give this place a another shot and we were amazed buy the change the new managers and their little dog were fantastic and the rooms smelled nice and fresh very clean they made us feel like we were at home, very enjoyable stay

Bottom of the Pile
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/12/07
On Fri The 29th of July At around 2:00pm, my Wife and I Stopped at the Express Lodge Motel. The sign on the pole said it was a 4 star. We paid about $175.00 for 2 nights. When we got to our room, we got to see what the owner called 4 star. The room was dank, smelly, and the A/C didn't work. My wife said 'I don't want to stay here.' The bathroom was a fright. We went back to the office to get our money back. The man at the desk said 'No I will not refund your money' My wife said the A/C in the room doesn't even work and it's hot in there. He went to the room and fiddled with the knobs on the A/C and said you have to give it 10 min to start working. My wife said it doesn't take 10 min for A/C to get cool. He left. My wife sat on the bed. Then the phone rang and it was the Clerk who was just in the room. My wife started to talk to the man. She began to say 'Don't shout at me!' Then she hung up the phone. She said 'He told me to F**K OFF!' We went back to the office. He said my wife told him to F**K OFF first and he would not give us a Recipt. We left the Motel after staying there for only 15 mins that cost us $175.00. And stayed at another Hotel. I would have to say it was the worst thing that my Wife and I have ever gone through on Vacation.

Not up to par
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/16/07
This place was an extremely unclassy place. It may be okay for local people who may not have a place to sleep on one particular night (say they're moving, or the house is under renovations). But for a TOURIST, definitely not the place you'd want to go to. There's a full-service hotel directly across the street. How would this business expect to survive when there's a much better one within a 10-second walk? Near the train station? hardly!! The train station is in a completely different city Needs new management

Dank and Smelly
By Brian, 9/10/06
I don't know what hotel the other reviewers stayed at but I'm sure it wasn't the Express Lodge in Dartmouth. The room I had was dark and smelly and the A/C hardly worked. I just wanted to pay up and get out of there. I suppose you get what you pay for... but there are other hotels in the Greater Halifax area that give better service for the same money.

All in one place.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/05
My visit was last september. What I mostly liked about it is it's ALL in ONE. - With the lake across the street, I enjoyed all sorts of water activities during the day. And relaxed watching the amazing sunset view at the evening. - Downtown is nearby, you can always choose between heading down or just relax and enjoy the tranquility of nature and people around. - Mostly and after your long days. You can always be sure to come back to your clean room, well serviced, and happy with your ROI. It almost feels like home and you'd wish you didn't have to go!

A Good Night Sleep On Beautyrest
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/05
I Stayed at Expresslodge in June 2005 visiting Family in Halifax and had the best night sleep during my trip. It was a surprise for me because for the price paid you do not expect to sleep on a Beautyrest in a small motel . i wish they have in room wireless internet .but i will stay again in my next visit for Christmas

Not bad for the price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/1/05
I've stayed at this place and I was satisfied. The rates are very good, considering across the street is more than twice the price! Rooms were very clean, however, they were very standard. My only complaint is that the owner or manager doesn't seem to be a "people person", and seemed rude at times. However, the younger fella that works there was very opposite. Very polite and makes you want to return! The dog was cute!
