Bed bug alert!!!
My wife and I have stayed at this Hampton Inn numerous times due to how clean the rooms were, the courteous staff, and great service, not to mention the close proximity of the Sandy Springs area. When we arrived Saturday Jan 14th at 9:45pm we found that they were remodeling the lobby which should have been a warning sign. NEVER STAY AT A HOTEL THAT IS HAVING REMODELING DONE!!! Remodeling makes all kinds of bugs and rodents move around from one area to another.
As a habit we always check our room for bed bugs and other pests before we sit down or even bring our luggage into the room. They had just remodeled all of the rooms and they looked great, but no matter how new they look bed bugs can still invade the room in a matter of weeks. Initial inspection of room #203 looked good, but when we moved the matress to inspect between it and the box springs we found two bed bugs in the folds of the dust ruffle!!! They were full grown adult bed bugs and we took pictures then immediately killed one as the other fell to the floor and went under the bed. I notified the front desk and the girl offered me another room, and I went to room #401. I didn't find any alive bed bugs, but I did find some of their shed skins near the nighstands and baseboards. I also found that the matress, though brand new, had appeared to have been cleaned in one spot along the edge, and it appeared to be a small blood stain. I went back downstairs and told the front desk clerk the issue, and even showed her the pictures I took. She offered me another room on the 7th floor, but we were having second thoughts about staying here. I reluctantly looked at room #701 and it was spotless!!! My wife and I decided to stay as we couldn't find any signs of anyone ever even staying in this room. Not one spot of dust anywhere! We started hanging our clothes in the closet, and putting the stuff in the bathroom when the clerk from the front desk called. I told her the room was fine and we would stay in it. She then informed me that we were to check out and vacate the premises! She said that she had talked to her manager, and that her manager said for us to leave immediately. This was now 10:30 at night, on a Saturday in ATL where rooms were almost non-existant due to a lot of conventions going on!
We complied, and politely asked the front desk clerk repeatedly why we were being asked to leave with no answer given other than the manager said so. I asked her to contact the manager at home as I wanted to talk to him/her, and she said no as that is not possible. So we left, and went in search of another hotel. While in the parking lot we stopped some other families getting ready to check in and turned them away showing them the pictures of the bed bugs. One guy even gave me his business card wanting me to email him the pictures! They were not very happy with me as they had to cancel all of these reservations without charging these people a cancellation fee... We finally found a Courtyard Marriott about 3 blocks away that was even cleaner than this Hampton Inn, but we paid about double the price too. It was a good thing we didn't have our handicapped son with us on this trip or I would have been really ticked off!!!
If they can erradicate these pests then this is a good hotel to stay at. The manager has avoided my phone calls all week (this is Wednesday), and my gut feeling is they have known of this problem thus the reason for sending me away.
