Kauai Kailani I & II, Kapaa

There was absolutely nothing to dislike about the Kauai Kailani. I went for 11 days and stayed here the entire time with my son. All the comforts of home and then some can be found here. Each room has either a balcony or lanai, with a double bed & 2 twins. I put the twins together for a bigger bed. It is literally steps from the beach; however, there's also a pool for those who don't want to get sandy or salty. The private piece of beach is beautiful and peaceful; however, don't plan on being able to walk very far out into the water. It's rocky and slippery but we had water shoes and it was fine. The pool is always warm, and you can swim morning & night. The TVs are X-Box compatible, which was a plus for me when I went shopping (my son didn't want to go on all of my shopping trips!). There was a gecko in my room, but we didn't mind! Very convenient having full kitchen. Laundry is right on 1st floor. No phones, but didn't need one (cell phones work fine). WiFi did go in and out...sometimes it was out for hours at a time, but we were in paradise, so who cares? May not be good for business travel because of this, though. Shopping across the street includes grocery stores (go to FoodLand instead of Safeway!), Starbucks, L&L BBQ, etc. Pizza place nearby is AWESOME! Bike rentals very close by, and worth it! The tradewinds are the best...just open your windows and feel it come through. the best part? Falling asleep to the waves crashing right outside your door. Kids can play in the TV/Game room (ping pong, board games, etc) and there are books you can borrow during your stay. BBQ grill is near the TV room. If you're looking for comfort, convenience and reasonable pricing -- this is what you're looking for!! The place has JUST been sold, so I'm PRAYING that the new owners keep to the same management practices. I wouldn't want to see anything change, because I totally intend to come back. Kapaa is very close to anything you'd want to do: snorkeling, shopping, zip lining, hiking, etc. Visit Hanalei up north for one of the best beaches on the island. Spas and yoga are right across the street as well. A short 5-min drive north takes you downtown, where the cutest shops and restaurants are found. Trust me when I say you will fall in love with this place.

I have to admit if your looking for luxury, this is not the place for you. We have been staying here since 1993 and love it. Friendly staff, clean rooms. we have had family come and stay and they have returned again and again. It feels like home We cannot wait to get back there this month.

One of the best kept secrets on Kauai. It's not the Prince Hotel or the Hilton, but then again the Kauai Kailani is not $450/night. The condo's are located right on the water and most units have a view. There is a grocery store and other facilities right across the street. The units are prefect for the vacation on a budget; a clean place to stay, perfect for the kids and a very friendly staff to help.

We've been staying at KK II for 30 years and it still has that same feeling of old time Kauai. No frills, but the staff are so friendly and the location can't be beat. It's very clean and comfy. Safeway right across the street, and the little town of Kapaa is delightful and within walking distance. There are great restaurants also within walking distance. No phones, but available on site, and also a TV room if you don't want to rent one for a very nominal fee. On the downside, the KK II units get a lot of traffic noise in the units closest to the highway. Try it...you'll like it!

We shared our unit with another couple and more than enough room. We were on the third floor overlooking the ocean. It's in a really convenient part of the island and close to many great beaches. I would come back here in a second.

This timeshare/condo was very simple- no t.v., microwave, dishwasher or disposal. The view of the ocean from the third floor was excellent. The design of the building is very poor. When you sit on your lanai you look right at the lanai next door and into their unit! We had smokers next door and had to move inside and shut the door. The soundproofing between floors was poor. The downstairs occupants banged on our ceiling and complained about our teenage boys walking like elephants. Not a family friendly choice!

I stayed in room C-3, it had a private bedroom and bathroom, and two extra beds out in a nook off of the livingroom. The furniture was tropical in design, very comfortable and sunny. The Lanai was a decent size and the place was quiet, there wasn't anything that I didn't like about this place. In the morning at around 6 a.m. if I stood out at my front door I could watch the beautiful sunrise, the sky started off dark, and turned to purple,reds, pinks, oranges, yellow and finally blue the most gorgeous sight I have ever seen. The white doves crooning out in the banana plantation in the morning was also a very comforting sound, they showed up daily to forage there and then flew away. In the evenings the Geckos came out onto the Lanai to eat tiny insects that were attracted to the light, keeping them non existant inside. The trade winds blowing through from the front out to the back made the interior very comfortable. Don't miss this place, I haven't found anything comparable in the same price range. What a pleasure.

A great, inexpensive place to enjoy the full beauty of Kauai. Stayed there for 4 weeks a year for more than 20 years. Staff always curteous and friendly. Shopping/dining just across the street. A great place.

Certainly not a five star hotel...BUT the apartments are clean, has all accomodations (stove, pots, pans, dishes) to make your stay more like home. Not a good swimming beach due to the rocks but you are so close to the South shore (where it is always sunny). Grocery store right across the street. There were several little roaches in the room but considering you are in a tropical climate it is to be expected. Will grab a can of raid and definately go back there....for $60 bucks a night it is well worth the price!!
