Needs a good Wrecking Ball
By Carolyn, 9/27/10
Stay Away. The best I can say about this place is the sheets were clean, the walls were painted, there was tile or carpeting on the floor and the toilet worked in all 3 of the rooms we stayed in over a week's stay. All rooms were inadequately furnished, the laundry room had 1 washer and 1 dryer, the pool gates were always locked, the remote control didn't work, the bathroom light didn't work, the ironing borad was broken and there was no iron, the maid service quality varied from day to day, the water from the adjoining room backed up into the tub, the elementary playground is 5 feet from the hotel, delivery and garbage trucks abound at the "Front" of the hotel, the breakfast was totally inadequate for anyone over age 5, the staff was rude. If you like this area, try the Howard Johnson, Days Inn or Loma Inn. The price would have been good if we hadn't had to buy breakfast.

You get what you pay for, BUT great location
By me, 6/20/08
Well, my boyfriend & I booked this place for a cheap 3-night stay to save money. We felt it was a great location for all the places we were visiting, and would barely be in the room. When we got there to check in, we walked in with smiles, but were greeted by a man that didn't care to smile, or be friendly. Didn't talk much, except to ask for my name, card, ID, and give us the keys to our room. The room: Wasn't at all what the pictures looked like on the website. We were let down a bit. We kinda had to laugh at the bathroom lighting. When you turned on the lights, it was so dim it reminded us of some horror thriller. After the first night, we forgot about it. The mini fridge is laughable. It's partially made out of wood. The room looks creepy, but it was clean, so that was important. The microwave came handy. Suprisingly, the bed was very comfortable (along with the pillows), and the sheets had our bodies not wanting to get out. After checking out, we were still saying how shockingly comfortable Super 8 hotel beds were. Location: This is a plus! Close to everything! Next door is Starbucks, and Einstein Bagels. If you forget anything, there's a CVS, and Walgreen drug store a few feet away that's open 24-hours. Not to mention a TJ MAXX, Ross, Circut City around the corner. Mervyn's & Target are not far as well. Sea World is also very close. That was one of our destinations, and about 10-15 mins from Pacific Ocean spots, or Mission Beach. Food: My boyfriend & I HIGHLY recommend a BBQ spot called "Phil's BBQ" on Sports Arena Blvd. It gets pretty busy, but when you eat there, you can see why. You could ask the front desk for directions, or look it up. It's less than 5 minutes away from the hotel. Otherwise, we enjoyed the large variety of fast food around. Especially Chipotle's, and In & Out Burger. We admitted that it's no super nice hotel, but for a place to crash, and get ready to head out again, saving the money is all worth staying here again.

Great place for a great price
By OscarM, 5/5/07
I booked 2 rooms for a group of friends for our weekend trip to San Diego. I was a little afraid that my friends might hate me afterwards because this place has received some bad reviews. But they wanted a cheap place. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to find that it was in a great location. Plenty of fast food places to eat at and some stores right next door. The best part was the Starbucks and Jamba Juice less than a minute from my room. The rooms were very clean and large (we had a two bedroom). The grounds were also clean. Service was not all smiles and pleasantries, but got the job done. Don't expect Doubletree hotel friendliness, but good enough. Continental breakfast was not the best I've had but certainly not the worst. Adequate for a free breakfast. Cant fault them for it. Overall, This was a good place to stay at for 1 night and for a cheap price. I've stayed at some really bad places for the same price but this was good enough to take a family to. I would recommend this place if all you want a clean place to sleep. Geat value

staff needs attitude makeover!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/06
I didn't even go to the hotel I tried to make reservations and the telephone clerk was rude! He started getting hostile when i couldn't answer one of his questions because my phone cut out for a second. From that point on he was just rude which complety turned me off from wanting to stay at the hotel but then I read the other comments and I guess not only is the staff rude but the hotel definitly isn't worth the stay or the money.

The nearby bridge is comparable
By Rik, 11/2/05
Remember the Peter Principle where people rise to their level of incompetence? The staff of this hotel are operating somewhat above their collective Peter Level. Shortly before leaving on a driving trip leading to San Diego, we ordered some tickets which had to be physically delivered. Very simple, right? Just tell FedEx to deliver them to the hotel with a note on the front stating when we planned to be there and matching our reservations. The clerk signed for the delivery, but then turned around and sent them back with the FedEx truck. How hard can it be to toss the envelope in the corner for a day and deliver it to us when we arrive? When we asked about the envelope, we were met with simple "No, there has been no delivery". Only when I showed them the FedEx tracking including the signature of one P Patel did the story change to "We sent it back to FedEx". At least they did do that much and all we had to do to get them back without missing a day's event was drive out to the FedEx distribution center. Then there's a cavalier attitude about safety: The steps to the front door are loosely draped in a rubber carpet runner: very easy to trip on. Perhaps it is intended to make the steps less slippery when wet, but the result is clearly worse. The staff just nods. In our room, the electrical outlet is not only missing the cover plate, but the outlet box is not attached to the wall: it is just hanging on the wires. The showerhead did not have a sprayer and the cutoff valve only sent part of the water to the shower. The only towels were small, perhaps 90cm long. There's a cavalier attitude about advertised services. While the WiFi worked the first night we were there, it was not available the next. When I asked the front desk, the first response was "We don't have WiFi". When I pointed out that they had had WiFi the night before, the story changed to "They are working on it", an obvious fabrication at midnight. He had no estimate of when someone would restart it, and it did not return in 4 days. While I often do just fine with cheap hotels, using them mainly for the bed and shower, this instance is an exception. If the ads hadn't talked about internet access, I would have planned to drink more coffee in a cafe with WiFi. But the ads did say... The added civility of being able to receive an envelope delivered by a nice man in a truck really should not stress their normal business practices.

VERY bad experience
By Kerry, 8/1/05
I am accustomed to staying in cheap hotels for the sake of saving money to spend on other things, but this hotel was not even worth the money I saved. To begin.. the rooms had a strange odor, I saw several bugs within the first few minutes of entering my room, and the hotel staff (aside from the young night attendants) were unpleasant and rude. I discovered the staff members looking through trash wich is not only disgusting, but gave me a sense that they were invading my privacy. After seeing that we asked that our room not be cleaned until the end of our stay. When we asked for towels the staff commented that we were the ones who didn't want our room cleaned and were reluctant to provide them. I highly suggest paying a little extra to stay in another hotel. I read reviews like mine about this hotel, but decided to take a chance. I will never make the same mistake again.
