You've Got to Stay Here!
We had not visited Washington DC since the kids were little, over 15 yrs ago. With so many hotels to choose from we were glad we picked the Holiday Inn at Alexandria. With the free shuttle service to/from the airport and to downtown Alexandria there was no need to rent a car which also saved us money. We rode the shuttle to the airport and took the metrorail siteseeing into Washington DC from there. The hotel is only 10 minutes from the airport. At first we were leery about riding the subway, it was our first time, but Washington DC has a great subway system! The were maps everywhere and they were very easy to follow. If you looked lost or confused a police officer or security guard immediately would come up and ask if you needed assistance. Best of all it was clean and you felt safe.
The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful! Unfortunately when we arrived I realized that I had left my purse on the shuttle van. The clerk at the desk immediately called the driver to come back via the radio and he brought it back to me within a few minutes, without any complaints and everything intact. I was impressed. It was nice to be assured the employees are trustworthy and honest. Our room was not ready so they checked our luggage for us and gave us information on a walking tour of historical downtown Alexandria only a few blocks away. It was beautiful. We loved looking at all the old houses and buildings. There were several small shops, a mall and lots of restaurants all within walking distance. The hotel is only 2 blocks from the Potomac River, which also has a beautiful hiking trail along it.
Our room was very spacious and clean. We had a balcony, kitchen with microwave, sink, dishes and refrigerator along with 2 beds and tv's. The hotel has everything. The lobby is gorgeous! There is an indoor/outdoor pool, whirlpool, exercise room, sundeck, bar/lounge, and restaurant that has a buffet every night. There is even a grocery store across the street in case you forgot something.
We definately will be back to visit again. There was just too much to see and do in one visit.
PS: Make sure to visit while the cherry trees are blossoming, it is awesome!
